You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
 

"My name is Aya Areris,"  Aya began, her voice barely above a whisper. "I am a dark elf, a commoner, who was born and nurtured in the middle of constant conflict. From a young age, the battlefield was my home. The clashing of weapons and the wailing of the fallen became my constant companions."

"It did not help that my parents were often squabbling in my home when the war was raging. They are extremely sweet to others, but to me, they have never cared, but I always loved them anyhow."

The hag's eyes narrowed with interest, encouraging Aya to continue. "For numerous years, I battled for my people, believing in the justice of our cause. However, the cost of battle is high, and I paid it in full. My parents were among the first to fall, followed by my siblings and best friends. "One by one, I lost everyone I loved."

"I was not very effective in the war since, while everyone understood how to use magic, I did not and ended up fighting with standard steel weapons. I blame myself for not being able to aid in the war and losing the people I care about."

Aya halts, her heart laden with memories. "When the last of my loved ones died, I knew I couldn't continue living a life characterized by violence and death. I needed to take a different road, to seek something beyond the never-ending cycle of warfare."

The hag nods, her countenance unreadable. "So, what did you do?"

"I made the difficult decision to leave," Aya responds. "I walked away from the battlefield, ready to see what else the world had to offer. I am eager to learn about the habits, societies, and people who occupy this world. I want to learn about their cultures, hear their stories, and see how they live."
 

Aya gazes around the tent, the flickering candlelight highlighting her determination. "I pursue knowledge and insight not just for myself, but also to remember those I have lost. I believe that there is more to life than the endless pursuit of battle. There are stories to be told, friendships to be built, and innumerable adventures to be had."

The hag leans forward, her eyes bright with curiosity. "And what do you hope to find, Aya Areris?"
 

"I hope to find a world filled with wonder and possibility," Aya says, a faint grin on her lips. "I want to find the beauty that exists even in the darkest places. I want to learn the arts of healing, the craft of creating, and the stories of love and loss that connect us all.

The hag nods slowly, her expression thoughtful. "Your journey is one of development and transformation. Remember, the world is constantly changing, and there is always more to learn.

Aya stands, feeling the weight lift off her shoulders. "Thank you for listening," Aya responds, bowing her head with gratitude. "I will continue my journey, seeking knowledge and understanding wherever I go."

The hag smiles, an unusual and transient expression. Go, Aya Areris. "May your path be full of discovery and wonder."

With a final nod, Aya leaves the tent and returns to the murky, muddy town. The stench of rotting wood and moist moss remains strong, but it appears less suffocating. she takes a big breath and embarks on her next trip, excited to discover where the path will lead her.
