Goro the Wanderer – Backstory
No one knows where Goro came from—not even Goro himself.
He awoke beneath a crumbling archway deep in the ruins of a forgotten village, bloodied and gasping, a deep wound carved across his side and no memory of how it got there—or who he once was. The only clue to his identity was the name "Goro" etched into the rusted inside of a brass ring he wore on a chain around his neck.
Since that day, Goro has never stayed in one place for long. Driven by a restless instinct he doesn't understand, he wanders from town to village, forest to mountain pass, his eyes always scanning, searching… for something. Or someone.
Despite his rough appearance—long scruffy hair, a thick beard tangled like roots, and ragged clothes that have weathered a hundred roads—Goro is kind, cheerful, and deeply curious. He greets strangers with a wide grin, and often wins hearts over a fire with stories he doesn’t remember learning and songs he doesn’t recall hearing.
Some claim to have seen symbols flash in his eyes under the moonlight. Others say he speaks in strange tongues when he dreams. Animals trust him. Children are drawn to him. Shadows seem to linger a moment longer when he passes.
Goro laughs at the talk of “omens” and “destinies,” brushing it off with a wave of a scarred hand. He says he’s just passing through. Just another traveler with no place to call home.
But the truth?
Goro feels watched.
He’s not sure by what.
And sometimes—just sometimes—he sees flashes in his sleep: fire, a blade, someone screaming his name…
