How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is when a player uses knowledge attained out-of-game to inform in game decisions and actions. For example, if a player reads about another character's weaknesses online and exploits this knowledge during in game combat to gain an advantage.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is roleplaying in a manner contrary to the abilities of their character, such as claiming that you can pull a heavy cart despite being a weaker character.
