In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I am an avid D&D player and tend to appreciate systems in roleplay settings/games, such as dice rolling or DM oversight. These allow players to exercise autonomy, while at the same time encouraging and supplying mechanics for fairness. I have experienced several cases in rp scenarios where certain player characters (including myself) are required to roll dice to determine an outcome or ask permission through action descriptions before committing. I personally think that these are some of the best ways to avoid intentional and accidental power gaming. (I saw that this server had a d20 plug-in, which got me exited due to my hobbyist background in TTRPGs)
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming and fourth wall breaking is usually displayed in roleplay settings/games as having an in-character figure act on or mention information that they should not know. The player is responsible for playing a realistic role with realistic knowledge despite OOC information. Metagaming can lead to a multitude of issues, such as unfair advantages in ambush/combat scenarios, unrealistic dialogue/actions, stream sniping, unrealistic lore/character background knowledge, etc.

Character Name: Fåx Dagbrand
Character Race: Highlander
Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 26
Physical Description: (Height - 6'2") (Hair Color - Dark Brown) (Build - Lean) (Weight - 189 lbs.) (Eye color - Blue) (Disfigurements - Deep burn scar on left side of face)
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Example: "I didn't know I was expected." Fåx gave the tent a weary inspection. "You want a story? Fine. Just so long as you let me shelter for a moment from this accursed weather. It seems that's all I can offer for hospitality these days." Fåx hesitantly found a dry cushion to sit on and continued. "My name is Fåx Dagbrand. I'm from the wastes north of Norland, though not so far out as to be more than a day's walk from certain villages. I'm a fur trapper by trade, despite my old man wanting me to join the Ashguard. My father was a perfect soldier and wished the same for me. I think he was disappointed when I began hunting animals instead of men to feed our family while he was off fighting for glory."

Fåx produced a traveling flask and drank from it as he resumed. "He died fighting before I turned eighteen. After that, it was up to me to provide for an ailing mother and a boisterous younger brother. We survived the first few winters, but it got harder each time. Eventually, I was able to pay for a physician to help mother, though her condition was severe. She didn't make it."

A pause as Fåx reminisced. "My brother and I survived alone for some time. I taught him what I knew about hunting, and he showed me how to read and write, courtesy of our mother's teachings. Things were alright for a while after that."

Fåx grumbled, a cruel and melancholy sound. "Then there was an attack. It was dark when it happened. Firelight danced in the snow as my brother and I took shelter from a storm during a foraging trip. The thing that attacked us must have noticed the firelight. It seemed human when it first approached—even spoke and acted like a man (Siliti). We were wrong. It attacked us with the speed and ferocity of something wickedly unnatural. We tried to fight back, but neither of us were trained. My brother lasted only seconds, and I would have fallen too if the mad beast hadn't knocked me into the fire. Embers exploded, flying in every direction. I was burned." Fåx gestured to a dark scar covering one side of his face. "That burst of flame seemed to scare it off, however. The bloody wretch took my brother's corpse and vanished. I didn't see it again afterward, though I made sure to keep the fire high that night. I searched for a long time—never finding my brother or the thing that killed him. Travel has been my only comfort in recent months. The farther I am from home, the safer I feel. But I don't want to feel safe. I'm looking for someone to teach me. I'm looking for someone who knows what attacked me and my brother that night—someone who might show me how to hunt it. I have no one left to protect. No one left to save. But I can't afford to be caught helpless again."

(P.S. I can supply names for the character's family or change things if this feels vauge. I'm also completely open to changing the backstory if a monster hunter/ranger doesn't really fit the server lore) (I'm still familiarizing myself on the deeper parts of the wiki lore. Any suggestions for study on a character like this or suggestions in general would be greatly appreciated.)
