You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
*Kali approaches slowly, with a questioning but intrigued expression, and speaks with a low exhausted voice* "I have ran for a long time, not from crimes, but from my home, my mother was taken by disease," *Kali heaves a sigh, and looks down at his calloused hands* "my father drove himself mad with his grief." *His tired and sunken eyes seem stand out more now* "Eventually disease spread, striking one home after another." *Finally he looks up, a faint ember in his eyes* "I seek comfort, I seek a home,I seek a family," *He stands and looks deeply into the eyes of the hag* "and most of all I seek the ability to protect all that I will gain. I wish to serve a lord that will care for his people, and not abandon them as my previous lord did, and to do so I will offer anything they ask for, whether it be my sword, or my life." *The ember is now burned out and he turns his back to hag and begins to walk*

How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: By focusing on building a character that follows a realistic playstyle, and making realistic decisions by acknowledging my characters believable strengths but also his weaknesses and flaws, and not trying to find a way out of a bad situation unrealistically, like somehow doing an acrobatic somersault onto a chandelier to avoid an attack when my character is a Paladin clad in heavy armor, but instead using a pillar in the room as cover, if you end up rolling a nat 1, take it and keep playing.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: It gives an unfair advantage by allowing characters to get a headstart on what they will do, as it is the player contolling them and not the actual situation. e.g. If someone OOC knows another character in their party has bounty, but IC intentionally avoids interactions with authorities.
