Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Example: Expecting her? In this miserable, disgusting place? The old crone was either a good fortune teller, or she was about signal her kin out to spring from behind the tattered curtains to pluck elizabeth of her very last copper and leave her bleeding out In the mud.
Elizabeth knew she had to be smart with what she chose to do next. She could either stay and converse with this old crone in hopes this wasn't a obvious set up to rob her blind, or she could politely apologize for intruding and turn her back to brave the swamp alone, directionless, and no less doomed then she was before.
Elizabeth's left ear gave a sharp twitch as she stared at the old crone through the greasy haze of candle smoke, letting the offer to sit hang between them a moment longer before she finally decided to answer.
“Expecting me?” Her voice comes out slow and dragged with light skepticism. "If that were so, then you already know of my story, and you must know why I've come."
Backstory
Elizabeth silverglade was born a high elf, and for reasons unknown, was separated from her parents as a wee babe, being planted Infront of opening of a local forest with nothing but the blanket wrapped around her.
It wasn't long before she was found and taken In by two human highlanders, who had decided to raise her up as their own. They provided her with a stable and loving home, teaching her the core values of unity, duty, and loyalty. (They were apart of the raevir group, and her childhood, overall, was one with very little to zero life changing trauma!)
She had always wandered about where she had come from, but didn't care to once she learned how she was found in the opening of a forest, seemingly abandoned by her parents. A forest, of all things?! She could've been eaten, or worse, taken into slavery! She wasn't even deserving of a door?!
When that depressing conversation had finished, she had decided to fully embrace the culture of the humans who had raised her, all while shunning her true heritage and blood.
As the years had come and gone, she had eventually sprouted into adulthood wanting more then what her parents could give her. She longed for adventure and for the chance to make her own place in the world, and her parents had understood that feeling far too well, since they too were young once. With a few coins and heartfelt farewell, she has taken her first steps forward into the great land of azuras.
