Elend Morilim was born as Elend Daedrum in Karosgrad, Haense. He was the youngest of four siblings – two older brothers, one older sister. Elend's father received military accolades for his heroics during the Siege of New Reza, and his further work as a general for the Empire. He retired in 1752, seeing the end of the war as imminent, and settled down and had children. Taking after their father, Elend's two older brothers trained in tactics and fighting, quickly proving themselves adept students, and working towards leadership positions in the Haeseni military. (Please note that Elend does not come from a noble background) Elend's older sister found her way as a singer, moving to the Jade State to gain patronage as a performer. Elend himself had a happy but entirely uneventful childhood. However, at around age 16, Elend's best and only friend, Essin, found an early position as a clergyman in the Church of the Canon, leaving Elend alone. Feeling extraordinarily worthless, Elend came up with the last name "Morilim" (from a children's book he once read), and with not a word to his parents, at 16, set off wandering to make a name for himself. 5 years later, he's flitted through a number of apprenticeships – blacksmithing, scribery, and more – but still has yet to truly excel. He's currently homeless, but lives in the Southern Orenian Empire on-and-off with a friend from his blacksmithing apprenticeship, a Heartlander named Melsior.
“Welcome!” He began. “What brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?”
Elend lets a beaming grin break across my face, and straightens his shoulders. "My good gentlemen! Fair greetings to you. I must say, you're quite the guesser, as grand aspirations are indeed what brings me here today." Elend pauses, briefly. His smile flickers, but quickly returns, and an edge of wariness creeps into his tone. "I'm very happy to see such a friendly face in an unfamiliar city. Truly, I wish only make a name for myself here. But... what are you selling? And for your help, what would you ask of me? I have little to give."
