How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: You would have to stick with a/the story. Pretend as if though the game is actually real life. Do not underestimate/overestimate a players abilities. If you can't do a task then how do you expect another player to do that? If you can do a task than don't expect nobody else to be able to do so. And it prevents actually telling a good story. You see some unnatural things in stories sure...however, it isn't like a human that doesn't have access to special abilities can magically grow a tree. You avoid it by pretending u are in real life. I understand that is very vague but I don't understand how else to describe it. Stick to the story and try not to do something outside of it.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming is straying far from role-play. You are not really role-playing when you are metaplaying. There really isn't a story. For example, If a player finds out through text that someone is planning to betray another person through text or social media and the player acts on that then that wouldn't very fair. However, if a player finds out through another player in the game that someone is planning betrayal and acts on it, then that would be a fair game, because it is part of a/the story and it is from the game play (messengers)

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

"You are expecting me," I ask. I put a hand on the only axe I had brought, wary of the hag. How did she know of me? What was she planning for me? "I do not know you and where did you find my name?"
