The traveller has just arrived in a small town. As they look around, their gaze is met with run down houses and shops. They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
The young woman paused gazing her eyes towards the old hag as she was calculating the best response. "I come from a continent far away from this one, and I hope to become one of the best physicians this world's got to see." Replied the young woman before taking a seat at the old hag's chair.
"And what exactly makes you believe that you are so special?" Rudely yet quite amazed asked the crone.
The young woman didn’t flinch. She simply crossed one leg over the other and met the crone’s stare. “I don’t think I’m special.” She said calmly. “I think I’m determined.”
The old hag scoffed. “Determination gets people killed.”
“Sometimes.” the traveler replied. “But so does ignorance. Where I come from, I watched people die from things that could’ve been prevented.” The candles flickered softly around them.“I want to change that, no matter where I am."
The crone studied her in silence before letting out a dry laugh. “Either you’re a fool or you’ll become someone terrifying...”
