You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

"My story? Well..." I say as I shift awkwardly in my seat, not wishing to revisit my past, but knowing I won't get out of this without seeming disrespectful. I steel myself and begin:
"My name is Merrith Valleth. I came to this town looking for work. Anything to get by. You see... My mother was a wood elf, my father, a high elf. Both of their people hated this. Eventually my mother was forced to leave my father because of it, and eventually I too was rejected and exiled my people. The high elves saw me as unkempt and uncivilized and forced my already dishonored father to send me away. When I finally found my mother, she had started a new family and wanted nothing to do with me. Ever since it's been nothing but hardships. I tried in vain to reason, but I never succeeded. I was forced from my home and told I would never be welcome back. I've been trained on how to survive in nature since I was just a boy and that helped me survive, but it was no real life. I lost everything. That was years ago. Now, I'm just another nomadic rogue trying to survive in a world that seems to hate me. My only goal for all these years has been to get back on my feet and prove to anyone - my old friends, some supreme being, or even the world itself that I wasn't going to be bested by my past, but rise above it and create a better future for myself.
