*Philip is nervous. He doesn’t make eye contact, instead craning his neck in an attempt to see into the city’s streets.*
“Eh, hello sir. I simply came to learn. Does this city have a library somewhere?”
If the man reacts with directions, Philip would probably pay half attention as he took in everything around him. He’d likely get lost on the way to the library since he wasn’t really listening, but he wouldn’t mind. Philip would simply take in all of the new stimuli and enjoy himself as he made his way around the city in search of a library.
If the man reacts with shock or confusion that someone would come all that way just to visit a library, Philip would likely attempt to distance himself as fast as possible. Unsure of how to continue that conversation, Philip would simply follow his instincts and wish the man a good day before heading off to find a library.
Once Philip gets to the library, he’d likely ask the librarian for recommendations or a catalog. Philip finds it much less uncomfortable speaking with librarians and other people he deems intellectuals. He’s unlikely to be forced to make small talk in a library, as the purpose is direct and the librarian’s job is simply to help Philip find what he’s looking for, not to discuss the weather with him. After looking through the catalog, Philip would likely find a few books he’s interested in, find a spot to read, and begin reading a little of each book to gauge his interest. He’d check out a few, head out into the city, and try to find somewhere to get some food before finding a nice relaxing spot to read his newly acquired books.
