In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Usually, in RPGs I will limit the abilities I use, store away items that may be to overpowered, or limit my inventory entirely to allow for a fair fight/gameplay experience. In terms of metagaming power, I will play and act as the character, rather than what I know. As a DM, this is something I encourage my players to do, as the experience most of the time is better than winning.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is a Dungeons Master's worst nightmare (trust me, I know). Metagaming disrupts not only the player's roleplaying experience, but also others' experiences and the world building entirely. When you metagame, you lose the suspense of the situation and take strategic advantages you shouldn't have. Personally, I love to see the creative skills of my players when they don't metagame. It brings more personality and storytelling to the game rather than just "beating the level."

Character Name: Ronie Steelbane
Character Race: Mountain Dwarf
Character Gender: Female
Character Age: 27
Physical Description: Height: 4' 10" (pretty tall for dwarf). 207lbs. hair color: red (auburn). Eye color: green
Outfits: Prefers to wear white shirt and fur pants/jacket.
Roleplay Scenario:

Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

My character would continue to stand, tensing up with hand on belt.

"Who's you and what's happen here? And what do you mean about you? I think you should talk first." she says, as she is cautious about the whole environment. Just who was this old hag she thought, and why do they know me?  While she doesn't like to get into unnecessary fights, this whole area is slightly suspicious.

If the situation continued with the old lady showing her kindness (even not 100% honest kindness), my character would quickly turn emotions from confused and alert to being friendly and listening to the old hag.
