Ragnhild Stripesbane was born in North Norland, which's a really tough place to live. North Norland has a lot of fjords and valleys with lots of pine trees. The people who live in North Norland are very strong. Ragnhild Stripesbanes mother, Yrsa was a shieldmaiden, which's a very brave thing to be. Later Yrsa became a guard, for caravans. Ragnhild Stripesbanes father, Hroald sold furs for a living. He went missing one winter when Ragnhild Stripesbane was a kid. Ragnhild Stripesbanes father, Hroald was known for being very stubborn and very strong. She grew up around merchants and hunters and people who sold their swords. She learned how to follow animal tracks in the snow and how to fight when talking was not an option. The place was really tough with cold winters and not much food. There was also a lot of danger from raiders and wild animals. This taught Ragnhild Stripesbane that being strong and able to take care of herself was really important. She also learned to make her decisions. Ragnhild Stripesbane was really tall and strong so she stood out among the warriors. People were actually afraid of Ragnhild Stripesbane. She trained with a soldier named Kveld who taught her how to use her strength to deliver blows. Even though Ragnhild Stripesbane got better at fighting she felt like she did not fit in with the people of Norland. In Norland surviving was more important than being loyal to someone. Alliances between people change all the time. Something bad happened to Ragnhild Stripesbane. A big fight, between families broke her caravan. Ragnhild Stripesbane did not want to be a part of it. She knew it was not going to stop. So Ragnhild Stripesbane left. Now Ragnhild Stripesbane will fight for people who can pay her. When people talk about Ragnhild Stripesbane they are careful what they say. They respect Ragnhild Stripesbane. They are also a little scared. Ragnhild Stripesbane says she only wants money. Ragnhild Stripesbane does not care about anything.. Some people think Ragnhild Stripesbane is still trying to find out what happened to her father. He went on a trip. Never came back. Ragnhild Stripesbane wants to know what happened to him. In every battle Ragnhild Stripesbane remembers what she learned in Norland. She uses those lessons to fight. Ragnhild Stripesbane is a warrior who moves from place to place taking on fights. Her past in Norland is what made Ragnhild Stripesbane the person she's today. Ragnhild Stripesbane is still a warrior at heart and her experiences, in Norland continue to shape Ragnhild Stripesbane.
Ragnhild Stripesbane stops in the doorway before she steps all the way inside. Her big shoulders almost touch the frame as she pulls her hood down slowly. A piece of her hair falls in her face as she looks around at the candles floating in the air then she looks at the old woman. After that she walks across the room with steps her boots making soft noises on the floor. She does not sit down away. Instead she puts her gloved hand on the back of the chair and stands there for a moment like she is thinking if this is worth her time.
She says, "I am from Norland." Her voice is low and steady it sounds like she has been outside in the wind and has been in battles. She pulls the chair back. Sits down but she still sits up straight and looks ready with one arm on her knee. "Norland is a place that teaches you what can survive and what cannot."
Ragnhild Stripesbane looks at the woman with her yellow eyes she does not blink. She says, "I earn money and I am still alive. That is enough for now." She leans back a little. Her shoulders are still tense. "I did not come to a place, like this just to answer questions."
Her fingers tap against the chair once then they stop moving her face gets sharper. She says, "You said you were waiting for me so talk." She tilts her head her eyes are hard. She is looking at the old woman carefully. "What do you think Ragnhild Stripesbane is supposed to do?"
