    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Metagaming is when the player has information out of game that their character in game would not know and acting upon that information. An example of this is player A finding out that Player B's character is being attacked and so Player A conveniently makes their character rescue Player B's character despite player A character not knowing about the attack.
    How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is carrying out unrealistc and unfair actions that leave other players with no choice or chance to respond. An example of this would be Player A saying they 'chop off player B's head' instead of 'attempts to chop off Player B's head' thus leaving Player B with no option to respond

You’ve just stepped off of the boat in the port of a massive and fortified city. Before you lies a sprawling bazaar, with numerous shops, stalls, and seated traders selling wares to folk of all walks of life. Just as you’re about to continue walking onwards, into the market, you’re approached by a well-dressed gentleman who looks upon you with a big smile. “Welcome!” He began. “What brings you to this lovely city? Adventure? Wealth? Or some grand aspirations to elevate your place in society?”

I stare at the man for a moment before looking behind to see if he was talking to the right person.

'What's it to do with you?' I rest my hand on the coin purse in my pocket.

'I welcome every new arrival in this city!' said the stranger, 'I try to help wherever I can.'

'Then I don't suppose you can point me in the direction to the tavern? I am thirsty.'

The man's smile grew wider as he pointed to the building across from the bazaar. 'That'll be the place to soothe your thirst!'

'Thanks.' I mumbled as I sauntered over to the tavern.
