Zuri is originally from the Rasdom of Melle in a small isolated village. At the age of 15, Zuri was put into an arranged marriage by her father, to marry a man from a different tribe in order to maintain peace between the two. Desperate to avoid conflict, Zuri does not complain. After relocating to her husband village, she met with hostility and verbal abuse. She endures this for ten years. When he husband that has been protecting her dies of a sudden illness, she is left unprotected by the village folk and the verbal abuse has turned to physical abuse. She soon decides that she needs to leave and start a new life north.

She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
