Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
Example: Liam studied the woman before him, curious at the notion he was expected under peaceful circumstances for once, though he supposed that was the intention traveling this far from home. Liam brushed his thick woolen shawl aside and sat before her, his knees protesting from the years of abuse at this point. "My story isn't much worth repeating anymore, or should I say its run its course. I come this far away from my home to start a new story. One with less blood on my hands..."
Liam sat for a moment as his gaze slid the earth below him. His heart sank as he remembered the years preceding his decision to leave. "I... was a soldier. Plucked from adolescence for my strength and size I was made to be good at what they wanted me to be. For a long time I was, without mind or concern for what I did to others or what it did to me. At first, as a child I was simply glad to be of use, to be wanted for something. Eventually, the pain simply grew dull until I stopped asking if what I was doing was worth it."
Liam's eyes danced upward to meet the hags, "That was until I was wounded in battle, left for dead. I could have sworn I had passed on but the man that dragged me into the forest and healed my wounds assured me it was nothing more than the herbal medicine that drugged me into a stupor. Either way, when faced with the decision of heading back to my post, I realized my hands just didn't feel the same on the shaft of my axe anymore. I didn't... I didn't want to destroy anymore. I wanted to be like the man in the forest. I wanted to mend, to create... to be at peace." The pain in Liam's voice slowly subsided as conviction entered his heart. "I travel south, to Vectra. I hear its peace knows no equal and I seek the guidance of someone who can teach me the ways of that man in the forest."
