    How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Using info outside of the game inside of the game

"I come here to help people for a small price." Durin Replies. "Well then the tavern on third street might have what you need." says the man. As I walk over I see a man getting beat up in an alley way. I run over to the man getting beat up thinking there will not be another widow today. As i run over I notice that the attacker is holding a knife and I make that my number one priority. I grab his arm and wrench the knife free. I also kick him in the gut so he runs off. I offer the knife to the man but he says to me to keep it so I continue on my way to the tavern.
