How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Meta-gaming is when one makes use of a information that their character could not reasonably know.
E.g Bob hears on discord that the wicked witch of the south is plotting to melt bob into commemorative coins. Bob immediately hops online and confronts the wicked witch of the south about her plot using the info he learned OOC.

How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Powergaming is when one does an action that is either unfair for other characters, or unrealistic for the character they're playing. Forcing other characters to do an action is also powergaming.
E.g "Old cripple Bob does a triple backflip and slices Joan in half with a katana.". This would be metagaming because Old Cripple Bob is in RP, is physically incapable of doing a triple backflip, as he is old and a cripple. Slicing Joan in half is also metagaming because Joan did not ever acknowledge being cut in half (and probably dying)
