Raiden was born and raised as a highlander in Haense. At an early age his parents pressured him to work hard and become a scholar. His parents also were devout canonists and forced him to practice their faith. As such Raiden learned to reject his parents and grew up disagreeing with them. At the age of 14 he ran away from home and vowed to never return. At the same time he decided that being canonist was wrong. He lived on the road for two years, stealing livestock and mugging travelers for food. Eventually he decided that he wasn't happy and needed change. Being a Highlander, he made his way to Morsgrad in hopes of finding others similar to himself. When he arrived there he converted to the Red Faith because, at least in his view, it was a much more sensible religion than Canonism. Two years later he has enjoyed his time in Morsgrad but has had a hard time getting out of poverty. He strives to obtain a home and new family, one better than the oppressive parents he had before.
Raiden walks up to the man and charismatically lies. "I was looking to purchase a gift for my mother back home. Unfortunately, I'm a couple mina short. Do you think you could loan me it?" He says this with no intention of buying what he says he will or ever paying the man back.
