You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
You look at the crone quizzically, wondering what her intentions behind this form of questioning are. Silence envelopes the area surrounding the tents as the anticipation rises... you being to regale the story surrounding how you ended up here.
"It is a rather dull tale, but you asked" You say to the crone.
The crone looks at you with wonder and anticipation "Surprise me"
"As a child I was brought up in a Royal Household... with all of its perks... and all of its negatives... My family sought for me to have only the best of educations and sent me off to be educated by the most powerful mage in all the land..." You Pause for a second to remember her name...
"Her name was Adrona... If she had a family name it was never divulged to me..." you continue. "She was everything I aspired to be... Courageous, Intelligent, and Adventurous." You smile remembering how simple life was back then. "She began teaching me minor incantations, evocations, potion making and spells.... It was exhilarating... never knowing what came next in your magical studies"
Your smile fades into a frown. "I remained in contact with my family regularly and after only 2 years of study I received a letter requesting that I return home as something urgent had come up and my audience was required. I rode via horseback as fast as I could all the way back home and entered the castle, only to find my families heads on pikes as I entered and my uncle seated on the throne.
Holding back tears. "I demanded an explanation as to what happened during my short absence and was met with guards tackling me to the ground and throwing me into the dungeons. I didn't know what else to do so I screamed, yelled and wailed all night trying to get someone to come to my aid or explain to me why I was thrown into the dungeons. I stayed here for what seemed like weeks until one morning I awoke to a note on the floor explaining that I needed to escape and enact revenge on those that wronged my family. In this note was a spell that when spoken opened a portal"
You look around at the campsite and the crone. "That is how I got here... I walked through that portal and this was on the other side... I know not where I am... Please point me in the direction to the nearest city or place of magical learning so that I can gain the skills necessary to enact revenge on those that wronged me"
You stare into the crones eyes. "NOW"
