In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: I have played numerous roleplaying games like DnD and pathfinder and was always of the belief that powergaming made RP boring, in my mind powergaming is trying through RP or through various game mechanics to gain an advantage you don't really deserve in the context of the game. And as to why it should be avoided I personally believe that it makes RP boring and just eliminates the sense of danger or excitement one would find in a well executed roleplay.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming in my opinion is when a player uses information that they learned from outside sources to gain an advantage in game, Ill give DnD as an example. Lets say you were running a campaign and one of your players decided to go read the book and learn all the secrets and plot twists that they would have encountered in future sessions. In my opinion that completely destroys any chance for actual roleplay, most people forget that you are not your character, even if you know something if it doesn't make sense for your character to know it then you shouldn't use that information.

Nordir was born in The Princedom of Caurost to a wealthy family, he was raised in a pretty cold and distant household as expected of High Elves, he was mostly brought up by human caretakers only seeing his parents on special occasions. All of this was lost however when his family fell into immense debt, having to sell everything and not having any real connection to his parents Nordir abandoned his home in search of a new life outside of his hometown. Now Nordir travels the countryside as a wandering merchant selling anything and everything he can get his hands on.

Character Name: Nordir

Character Gender: Male
Character Age: 43
Physical Description: Nordir is a male high elf standing at 6"2 and 200 pounds, he has light brown hair, tanned skin and blue eyes with a scar running over one of them.
Roleplay Scenario:

The traveller has just arrived in a small town. As they look around, their gaze is met with run down houses and shops. They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”

((How does your character respond? Please ensure your response is at least six sentences long, and uses at least two actions.))

Example: *Seeming a bit taken aback by the familiarity showcased by the Old Hag Nordir raised his brow before answering* How do you know of me? *I say looking down at the Old Lady and after a short delay I add* No matter... I come from The Princedom of Caurost... Not that that means anything anymore. *I say looking a bit paler at the thought of what I had lost* Anyways, I intend to make a name for myself in the merchant business and live a comfortable life in a far off town away from all the conflicts.
