Montague “Monty” Lupin is a half-elf half-human. His father was Leobold Lupin, a wealthy man living in a small high elf town with his wife and his son, Jarvis, where he worked as a guard. One day, a band of nomadic human travelers came into town and Leobold was raptured by the beauty of one brown haired woman. They had a one night fling and the travelers left town the next day. Months had passed before Leobold heard a quiet knock at the door to his cottage. On the front step was a baby wrapped in a blanket in a basket with a note hastily scrawled on a piece of parchment. Leobold could barely make out a cloaked figure running away in the rainy night as he glanced at the note, realizing he had made a grave mistake. Leobold’s wife was quick to find out about his brief affair with a human woman. She could not bear to believe her husband would be unfaithful to her and promptly drank poison. This left Leobold on his own to raise his two children. Leobold could’ve cast Monty out at any time, but because of the regret of what he had imposed on his wife, he let him stay. Monty would go on to inherit his father’s kindness as he grew. All throughout Monty’s childhood, his half brother, Jarvis, held a grudge against him. As far as he was concerned, Monty was the reason his mother was dead. Leobold kept Monty a secret from the town for the first few year lest they exile him, Jarvis, or Monty, considering he was an impure bastard child. When he was old enough, Leobold posed Monty as a distant nephew coming to live with him after the death of his parents. Leobold couldn’t bring himself to lie to Monty, however, telling him about his mother when he reached his teen years. As Monty continued on in life, he began to search for answers on his birth mother. He thought he could make a start with the pendant he wore around his neck growing up: a pillar with a crown on top. After researching human culture, he stumbled across the Church of Canon. Monty became devoted to the church as it was the only remnant he had of his mother. He kept it a secret as he was already an outcast and didn’t wish to be judged even more by the high elves, who believed having faith in an unseeable god was foolish. Both Monty and Jarvis were eventually employed as guards in their small town. One night, Monty was working the gate when a group of travelers asked for entry. He let them in without question and a raid broke out. All the travelers were slain by the guards and the guards were mostly wounded. However, there was one casualty among the guards: Leobold. Now an orphan and suffering a scar to the eye, Jarvis was extremely angry at Monty. Jarvis exposed Monty’s secret to the town then and there in anger. Not sure what to do, Monty ran off into the woods surrounding the town. Monty has been on the run for awhile, hoping to find a more permanent home.
Monty, as usual per his demeanor, greets the man happily without question. “Hello, good sir! My name is Monty Lupin and I’d like to make my permanent home here in this lovely place.” Monty beams at him.
