A little annoyed to be accosted by a stranger and naturally wary.  "I'm sorry, good ser, I'm in a bit of a hurry to make sure I secure my belongings I came with."  trying not to be impolite.  "Is there perhaps a favourite tavern of yours here I could perhaps seek you out when the dust has settled.  I am Merl, by the way."
