I look upon my people

And I slowly break apart.

None of this is going to get better. It’s not.

And Maddock walked off, not really leaving. He just stepped outside the walls and went down to the river. He didn't know how much time he had left; his heart felt so weak. He had a couple days at best. But he knew he wanted to be outside and see the sunrise one last time. His mind was so foggy now. A healer would probably say that Maddock's mind was ill, that he wasn't thinking straight or understanding fully what was happening. It was like trying to ride a horse, but with incomplete instructions. He needed help.

Maddock started seeing things in the dark, glimpses of face he hadn't seen in years, faces that crept in, whispering in his ear of his failures, of his worthlessness, of his complete and total mistake of an existence. It was one particular face, the woman who was the closest thing to his mother he had, that made him lose what clarity he had. She didn't say a word, but Maddock didn't need to hear the words to know that Juni wished he stopped thinking he could ever be loved by her after all this time.

Maddock reached the riverbank. He sat down and just shut down, waiting. No one was coming to help...unless.

And now, to see her children steadily grow and become their own persons brings a tear to my eye.

I am proud.

In Alexandria, I see a glimmer that I believe may lead to great things for her line. And despite the chaos of our world, I believe it is only right that I pass the mantle, so she may truly bring her vision into fruition.

Usurping the authority of the Grand Duke, this body coerced His Serene Highness into ceding his power, a power vested and chosen only by the Lord above, delegated to none by those ordained through the selection of the Divine Will, and invested by the Mother Church herself. The contract between the sovereign and the Lord is not to be treated lightly, nor interfered with unless the body of the sovereign is rendered unable to perform its duties as one of God’s chosen representatives. His Serene Highness remains in good health and shall rule until the Lord has decided that it is his time to pass the throne to his daughter and heir, Anastasia Casimira Sybille Basileus.

It need not be explained why the actions of this body, acting under presumed authority that can be generously assessed as spurious, does not rule in the name of the Grand Duke, nor possess the legal authority to make enactments in his name. Their grievances, vague and concealed as they are, have avenues of proper redress: audience with the Grand Duke or debate within the public forum, which this liberal realm has always permitted, were purposefully neglected in favor of rebellious action that undermines the stability of Lotharia and puts the health of its people, and House Basileus, in danger. When hosts of Greye and Rovare detain and deject- how can this be called a protection? Their words are but lazy spittle, hiding truth when it is clear. 

In view of the shortsighted actions of this body, which has acted against their sovereign and against their people, there can not be too unmeasured a response. While reasoned critique is permitted and encouraged, usurpation under threat of violence is far beyond what may be forgiven through mild redress, and is thus considered treason against the Crown. The abdication of the Grand Duke of Lotharia, assented to vocally while under duress, cannot hold legal weight, for it was uttered at the end of a knife’s blade and with threat of war upon the Grand Duke and bloodshed of his people; not after long and prayerful consultation with the Lord, the government of the realm, and other involved parties.

As you cower behind your faux-reasonable arguments, pretending your disaccord with Grand Duke Iohannis I could only be resolved with the deposition of his rulership, I stew upon your actions and the path ahead for Lotharia. Historically, a coup signals the end of a nation, famously the Holy Orenian Empire ended with the man that couped his Grandfather, later becoming the Kingdom of Oren of which swiftly fell to insurgent vassals.

It is laughable to see who has signed this enforced regency, four of you have hardly been seen and have hardly contributed to Lotharian society and yet you stand up as though you have something to offer now. One of you isn’t even the head of your House and yet you deign yourself worthy of speaking for your entire house. You claim this is for the best of the Lotharian community, yet out of cowardice you didn’t speak to other heads of houses who do contribute to Lotharia.

This is not an act of care and compassion for the people of Lotharia, this is a clearly disorganised and poorly arranged spineless grasp for power and control given the guise of communal worry. You had the ability to discuss your qualms with the Grand Duke, yet instead you immediately took the radical option to depose his rulership? You show yourselves as nothing less than weak, snivelling schemers in your actions.

I rebuke and condemn you, severing my ties with the realm I saw my distant cousin found, now brought down by a group of petty lords. I implore others of Lotharia to do much the same as you swore loyalty to the crown, not these upstarts.

Do not equate my words with what my daughter believes, she will lead Temesch how she believes best and I shan’t force her decision, any notion otherwise will simply reinforce that you’re tyrants of your own selfish desires.

Ⅲ. Newsletter

THE ROADS WERE DARK, THE FRONTIER IS DANGEROUS. The carriage trundled along, joined by brave men and women of the Horde lands and the allied human vassals of Ipanema and Lotharia. Transporting a sizable amount of gold and escorting the mining staff from the Horde occupied mines within the Mesa territory. A team composed of knights, shaman and adventurers each with a storied past, save the youngest of them, hired by the Silverheart on behalf of the De Sylva Barony.

Aurellius, Ellira, Ukukaal, Zubayr, Maddock, Kroku, Kaal-Luk, Brvtokles

And not without reason, for bandits had been assailing the roads with the unstable economy of the continent that had everyone at each other's throats for minas. The convoy found itself waylayed by one such rogue group, a hillside ambush of archers and crossbows that had the group dead to rights. However… their diversified skill sets quickly turned the tables.

Ukukaals quick thinking called forth the ire of the spirits, clouding the archers vision before she unleashed an unrelenting fury that had two flanking bandits regretting their professions for only a moment before their demise. Whilst Brvtokles speared the leader of the group with a javelin, before chasing a target into the undergrowth. Zubayr and Maddock met four archers head on, entering the fog to do battle with them on perilous cliffs. The former tanking hits and tossing a blade at the back of another bandit about to do away with Aurellius who found himself fight tooth and nail on the road. Grappling with an injured bandit whilst Zubayr's target sought to finish him with a mace. Maddock leapt from the cliffside, sacrificing his legs to take the bandit the rest of the way down, saving Aurellius from a narrow fate as he protected his granddaughter with unrelenting determination.

Things were looking bad. Each of the adventurers had multiple bandits on them at once, and in some places the line looked fit to break. It was at this point a wandering patrol of Uruk, Kaal-Luk and Kroku burst free from the treeline to engage. Turning the course of battle with totality.

The entire party successfully returned to Lotharia, the convoy being transported towards the merchant's ship for delivery to Kurai-Kuni for a diplomatic measure to secure a future relationship. The Silverheart adventurer's guild, rewards each individual named above a Ferrum Key towards accessing the southern branch Artifact vault. Five Daemonsteel keys allow access to the vault to choose an artifact of their choice. In addition for professional attitude and skill, Ser Zubayr was granted a Bag of Holding, dimensional storage artifact.
 

DEMONS ROAM, henchmen and cronies of a maligned coagulated group reside within the Black Church, a place upon the island far to the south east of the continent. Their evil goons have been raiding nearby settlements and causing mayhem!

Sponsored by the House Temesch, all those who enjoy the art of combat are invited to spend the eve in Lotharia, where there will not only be a Joust - weapons provided, bring your own horses - but a free for all brawl afterward.

Brackets will be forged for the joust based on participants, and eliminations will take place until the top three are decided. 

The brawl to follow will be a free for all, a last man standing event where contestants may take part in hand to hand combat until there is only one winner. They may utilize the entire tournament ground, climbing and hiding to prolong their survival if needs be.

The triumphant of each game will be awarded a varying amount of minae in prize money, which will increase with the more contestants there are.

The Last Will and Testament of Sir Robert ‘Robyn’ Joseph de Lyons,

Sir Robyn de Lyons would go into a fit of coughs as he’d sit on the cart, as he’d ride once more into exile in the desert. Once more, as he remembered days past, when Archduke Constanz of Petra, before that Constantine of Balian, was deposed, and he had fled before to Balian. A refugee, a Commoner, son of a Knight and a Lady, a common family on the rise in Petra, until their lives were torn asunder in a fortnight. He started to doze, though he did not realize it, and fell into a dream he had many times. He aided his mamej, Juliana Vernhart, with some papers and ink, occasionally flipping through a children’s book as he heard the door open below, as he rushed down to greet his père, Sir Arthur de Lyons. His mother followed eventually, and Elaine, as the four shared a meal, laughing and talking, though the voices and faces seemed distant. Could he remember his mother’s voice, his father’s face besides its likeness in painting or stone? But, happiness covered, thought, a knock came at the door, and the Archduchess came in, and a dread built in his mind. He wanted to warn his father, to call out of the coming betrayal, but could do naught, and the dream shifted, the demons of war coming in their monstrous forms as his father pressed a warhammer into his hands and went to hold for court, but then malflame leapt out from the wooden roofs and the windows, setting the castle in stark relief, and the demons of grief and war numbed his mother’s tongue so it did not work again, though there was no harm to it. And as he ran from the terrors he awoke from the dream, muttering to himself, and wondering...would his mother would speak or be silent in the skies beyond? And would his father be proud of what he became? He was quite warm on the cart as it’d roll through the dunes. The desert was warm and dry - perhaps too much so, for one of his age. He’d cough again, some phlegm and blood. Perhaps it was not just the desert.

The desert had been warm when he had come to Balian as well, a boy shy of ten, and not just in climate. Truly it was the kindness of distant relatives he had never met who took him, his siblings, and his mother in regardless, and taught him all they could, and those far above his station who became friends to him and those who came with him. The names and recollections were fresh on his mind as if they were yesterday, even as time made the faces and details fuzzy - his sister Elaine, his friends, Casamir, August, Albert, Elowyn, Eloise - who came with him from Petra to Corbenic or Balian. His mentors - Ledicort Vuiller, Johanne Vuiller, Gaius var Ruthern, and King Alexander. And his new friends - his cousin Helane, Prince Hadrian, Princess Lydia, and Princess Elena, who became his wife. He remembered balls and hunts, descending into dark caves, back to back with Elena, aiding the druids in saving a bokolo from the Mori’quessir, before any knew that it would be them that would drive us from Almaris. He remembered lessons on politics from Ledicort and Johanne, leading his first trial with King Alexander as judge, remembered hours sitting writing the laws of Balian and assuring they were kept. He remembered growing orchards and vineyards and helping keep forests, helping build houses and surveying their new home as they commissioned plans for their castle. He remembered nights talking with Elena, sitting in the preserve behind the city on the slopes of Monterosa, the wind rippling across the water and through the leaves. He remembered the eve in the cherry grove north of the city when he gave his sash, and their wedding by the Grotto on Ledicort’s Rest, and later that night when he was made a Baron. 

He remembered the Kingdom rising around him, bustling and spreading across the mainland and the islands, and the next generation with it - Tristan, Percival, and Caelia, his children; Demetrius and Charlotte - his wards, and the former later his friend. Of Queen Sybille as she grew, and her descendants King Alexander and King John - all of whom he served, and watched live and die, as he grew bent with age. He watched a nation grow and change around him, and now it has fallen - the place that once felt so secure, fallen back to refugees. Though most he known had died or disappeared long before that, and yet he lived. Sometimes he wondered which was the greater pain - to die young as his father had, and only be able to watch your legacy from the skies, or to keep living for over a century, to grow tired, and see your friends, your wife, and even some of your children die before you. He coughed again, more phlegm, more blood, as he dozed back into feverish sleep, though a part of him knew he would never again fully wake. 

He dreamt of good times, of happy, but always the same demons would chase him - war, injustice, death. He could try to fight them, but whatever he did, he could not see them slain. Adria warred them, then Veletz, then the Church. He ran trials, he wrote laws, he took wards, provided advice. He retired so new blood could take over, and he became involved again when they disappeared. And yet it took all - his wife, his son, his friends, his mentors, and those he was a mentor for. His mind wandered to an argument with Elena which he thought routine, and then finding her corpse a few days later before they had reconciled. He remembered speaking to Percival when he was young about honor, and how those who broke their oaths and forfeited honor made themselves like beasts, and he remembered hearing of his son’s death and bearing his pall. He remembered Tristan’s exit, with all its tension after all his success, him going to sail to seas to not be seen again. He remembered seeing his mother Juliana on her deathbed in Enderoca, signing to her, but still not speaking, even as she gave him her old ribbon and passed on. He remembered Hadrian and Andromeda and Elena and him hearing of Johanna’s death, and mourning his niece. Time and space jumbled, as he remembered the good times and the loss. 

And yet another appeared in the chase - Time. Time which rotted nations. Men, and trees alike, and took the old with whom he was friends, until he was all that was left. And now it stooped over him, as he looked on it at first with terror. But, as his thoughts calmed, and his resolve settled, his expression shifted from one of pain to a slight smile, and the shape shifted, to that of his father, his mother, his wife, his friends, and angel. And as he’d look above, he’d think he’d see them, in the open clouds that formed the firmament, and hear faint calling and voices, as his smile would grow and he’d let out a sigh, remarking, voice weak, and labored between coughs “Mon heure est venue, j'ai achevé mon combat. Père, Mère, Mon amour, je rentre enfin à la maison...”

There have been many trials and tests placed in my path since my brother's passing. Countless sleepless nights of hard work and dedication have been required to soldier through, maintaining the appearance of a family who can contribute to its home nation whilst navigating unexpected grief.

It is through this time that I have been blessed with a companion. One who has not only kept me on path and sound of mind, but one who has contributed well above what was asked of him.

IT COMES WITH DEEPEST PRIDE TO ANNOUNCE THE BIRTH OF THE HEIR. Upon the eve of the 22nd of Lothar’s Gift, in the year 187 B.A, the babe came quickly and without any complications during labour. She is a healthy girl with light brown hair, a mixture of her mother’s blonde and father’s dark tresses. Her eyes are a dark blue, like the ocean’s depths. 

The babe shall be named ANASTASIA CASIMIRA SIBYLLINE. Her first name bears the connotation of rebirth, to symbolize the future of Lotharia as it continues to grow. The second is representative of peace, for no more blood to be senselessly shed, and to uphold a long-standing tradition. The final name is in honor of SIBYLLE I, a former Queen of Balian, for the hope that she will continue on the legacy of old. She shall be granted the title Baroness of Solvis, as it is her right as heir.

When the Grand Duchess recovers from the delivery, there will be a feast held within the Palace in honor of the heir’s safe birth. Those who attend may bring gifts if they please, but know it is not a requirement. Food and drink shall be served throughout the evening.

It is with great honour and open hand that House Vuiller announces the beginning of the Quadrennial Vuiller Gala, a celebration of fellowship, heritage, and the enduring bonds that weave through our shared history. Once every four years, the banners of the Vuiller line are raised high, and the family opens its arms to welcome others into their festivities for the day.

Let this be a grand occasion, not a festival for noble blood alone but a coming together of friends, neighbors, and even wanderers so that the warmth of our fire crosses beyond names and titles. For in unity lies strength, in kinship lies peace, and within gatherings, a remembrance of what ultimately survives.

 An Evening of Fellowship and Celebration

The Gala shall be an evening rich in merriment, fine company, and friendly competition. Guests may look forward to a succession of diversions and entertainments prepared in honour of the occasion.

Among these shall be the Best Dressed Competition, wherein guests are encouraged to arrive in their finest attire-be it the proud colours of their house, the silks of distant lands, or their own creative expression. A small prize and recognition shall be granted to the individual whose presentation best embodies grace, ingenuity, and celebration of the evening's spirit.

Apart from this, a number of miniature games and amusements shall take place throughout the night. Their nature shall remain unspoken until the festivities begin, for a touch of surprise adds flavour to every feast. Whether of wit, reflex, or good humour, these contests are meant to delight rather than divide, all in good cheer and fellowship.

It encourages guests to join in at will, or just enjoy the laughter and merriment that fill the hall.

Dress Code and Behaviour

Formal attire is requested, though creativity in dress is welcomed,  whether adorned in the colors of one’s house, guild, or homeland. The evening is one of dignity and joy, and guests are asked to conduct themselves with the respect due to a gathering of peace and kinship.

I. Purpose

Let it be known that the Paradisian Guild and the Barony of Silverheart have entered into good faith and mutual cooperation. The Guild shall establish a hall and base of operations within de Sylva lands to coordinate missions, provide employment to any sanctioned military order, and contribute to the security and prosperity of the region.

II. Terms of Cooperation

1. The Paradisian Guild may offer paid contracts to Silverheart members, knights, and levied men, allowing them to take part in sanctioned expeditions, escort duties, and defensive missions within the lands of the Barony of Silverheart.
2. The Guild shall ensure fair compensation for all services rendered, with payment reflecting the nature and danger of each task.
3. The de Sylva barony grants the Guild permission to operate and reside within its territory, so long as its members uphold local law and conduct themselves with honor.
4. Both parties agree to act in good faith, with transparency and shared intent to strengthen order and stability within respective domains.

With some time passed it has been noted there is a need for reform in the courts to ensure concise, legible and easy to follow hierarchy and positioning. With this, PALATIODORA ADRIANA ROSALIND TEMESCH has endeavoured to ensure that the Courts shall find themselves once more a vibrant place of culture, arts and celebration that all citizens of Lotharia and further may indulge in. 

MANY ROLES HAVE BEEN RENAMED FOR THE SAKE OF SIMPLICITY, some have been moved and a few are new with others being retired due to conflicting branches. This missive shall serve as a manner in which to correctly assess and understand what’s where and what a role does. Let the Oasis of culture that the Balio-Lotharians are blossom once more.

The Administrative offices of the Court

THE CONSORT- GRAND DUCHESS RHOSYN OF HOUSE BASILEUS 

The Spouse of Lotharia’s Liege, the Consort holds the O Cort Tou Oasi as their personal holding. Directly holding the power for every decision and rule of the Courts, they delegate such decisions to The Palatiodora as their primary advisor out of trust and duty. Whether they be personally involved in the running of the Courts or tend to other matters in the Grand Duchy is their own prerogative. 

THE PALATIODOR/A- LADY ADRIANA ROSALIND TEMESCH

Second only to the Consort themself in the running of the Palatial Courts, the Palatiodora is responsible for overseeing all work within the O Cort Tou Oasi and organises all major events and festivals for the Grand Duchy. Considered the utmost advisor to the Consort, the Palatiodora needs an intimate knowledge of Palatial affairs and culture.

They delegate the three Households to their Council members, who will then more meticulously handle the matters within their Households. Their only direct employee is the Chronikos, who they use as a personal assistant for all their meetings and any work that they engage with.

THE CHRONIKOS- COUNTESS SYBILLE MADELLENA TEMESCH

The personal assistant to the Palatiodora, The Chronikos would tend to all meetings that the Palatiodora holds or attends, taking all notes needed for any later work to be taken. It is considered a position that will lead to higher roles, either on the council or perhaps the Palatiodora itself. All their work is directed by the Palatiodora itself and is not limited to simple note taking.

Administrators of day to day Palatial life

THE PERSONADOR/A- [Vacant] 

A Palace requires several staff members to ensure that it may run properly, effectively tending to the needs of courtiers, wards and events. All servants of the Courts report directly to the Personador, who shall give them direction for their day to day happenings and for any event. In addition, they are also responsible for planning any events with their Celebradors and overseeing the teaching of any wards or children in the O Cort Tou Oasi.

THE DUCAL CHEF- [Vacant] 

The Ducal Chef is the sole Chef to the Ducal Family, responsible for cooking and preparing all meals for them and their esteemed guests throughout the days. Any feasts, banquets or events requiring food and refreshments shall recruit aid from the Ducal Chef. They shall provide what the Celabrador and Personadors wish for upon request.

THE SERVANTS- 

One of the most simplistic and understandable roles, the Servants of the Household have several options for their path. Handmaidens, Butlers, Cupbearers and so on, they shall all report to the Personador to be attributed to a position, and if so decided the Ducal Family member that they will be serving henceforth.

THE CELEBRADORS- 

The revellers of Lotharia, Celebradors are expected to keep the Courts busy with various events such as tea parties, dinners and painting classes. It is not limited by anything but their own imagination and desires. When time comes for larger events, they shall work with the Palatiodora and Personador in order to pull together a magnificent event for the Grand Duchy.

THE TUTORS AND WARDS- 

A Tutor in the O Cort Tou Oasi may be any member of the courts who wishes to teach their trade and knowledge to any ward or child in the Grand Duchy. It is to them to arrange and host the lessons or if so decided by themselves, have field trips with their students.

THE MESTRE DE TRADICIO- LORD LEONID VAR RUTHERN

Culture is intrinsically one of the most important aspects of a nation’s lifeblood and allows them to identify one another through values, traditions and shared behaviour. The Mestre de Tradicio is wholly responsible for the work that the Palatial Courts do in order to promote and develop the Balio-Lotharian culture. With all manner of cultural arts and documentation under their purview, it is them with the Palatiodora and Ducal family who ensures that the culture is spread. 

MODISTA- [Vacant]

The dress of a culture is what makes them often so easily identifiable to those who are not a part of said culture. In the way we dress, we express ourselves and the identity we define ourselves with, hence it is greatly important to the Palatial Courts to ensure we have a good seamstress and designer to tend to this. The Modista covers this role and ensures the Ducal Family are always best dressed. 

BIBLIOTECARIA- MISTER LUCIEN ROVARE

The best way to convey information is and will always be pen and paper, something the people of Lotharia know all too well. With the book collection well into the hundreds and ever growing, the Courts holds the role of Bibliotecaria so that new books shall always be sought after and the collection will be perfectly documented. 

DOCUMENTADOR- 

All cultural developments must be documented for prosperities sake, in the role of Documentador such shall be accomplished. The Documentador will write and record any cultural development they see within the people of Lotharia while similarly working to ensure such to continue to prosper and grow. 

POETA-BARD- [Vacant]

A much loved method of expressing culture and stories is through the performed words, such as poetry and bardship.
