    NATIONAL HOLIDAY ACT, 1747

    ABSENT

This act shall designate days of national celebration on holidays of historical and cultural note throughout the nation, promoting human consciousness and unity as well as formally declaring such occasions as periods of government shutdown and observance.

    INTRODUCTION

Under the motto ‘One God, One Law, One Country’ is the nation of Oren united in solidarity of history and heritage. To further this goal, cultural homogeneity in specific practices must be maintained in order to promote a cooperative national community. Certain holidays (commemorated days of note) should be maintained and enforced directly by the overarching government with its mission to encourage unity and joint practices shared across all of humanity. This act shall bestow special status to holidays deemed ‘culturally and historically’ significant to the Orenian state or humanity-at-large, as well as customs which are to be respected by both the national and gubernatorial governments.

    SECTION I:

Designating certain days of worship and celebration in the nation

    • ORENIAN NEW YEARS
      • Date: 1 Horen’s Calling
      • The change of the year and the estimated day of Prophet Horen’s birth. No specific customs enforced.
    • ST ARI’S DAY
      • Date: 21 Owyn’s Flame
      • The spring equinox and feast day of St Ari of Abresi, celebrated as the day of love and peace. A tourney is held in the national capital (or regional capital if unavailable).
    • FOUNDATION DAY
      • Date: 7 Godfrey’s Triumph
      • The day of Prophet Godfrey’s coronation as Holy Orenian Emperor and considered the anniversary of the nation. No specific customs enforced.
    • DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
      • Date: 15 Tobias’ Bounty
      • The anniversary of the Siege of the Dreadfort and the official day of solemn recognition of all Imperial soldiers who have lost their lives in battle. All flags flown in the nation are to be waved at half-staff.
    • LUX INVICTA
      • Date: 21 Sun’s Smile
      • The summer solstice and the estimated day of Prophet Owyn’s miracle of Lux Invicta and accession into the Sixth Sky. A wooden effigy of Owyn’s likeness (20 imperial feet high, of varying length) is to be burned on the morning at the national and each regional capital in commemoration.
    • FEAST OF THE FINAL REVELATION
      • Date: 1 Sigismund’s End
      • The day of Prophet Sigismund’s final revelation and his accession into the Sixth Sky. Mandatory Canonist mass is held in all parishes.
    • TUVANALIA | ST TUV’S DAY
      • Date: 21 Sigismund’s End
      • The winter solstice and feast day of St Tuv, also the cultural counterpart of the famous Krugsmas throughout the realm. No specific customs enforced.

    SECTION II:

On adding, amending, and removing government-approved days of worship and regulation of regional holidays

The holidays listed within Section I may be expanded or removed by amendment to this act.

Regional holidays may be maintained by individual states with recognition by the national government- however, such days will not constitute full government shutdown by the Empire nor is strict observance demanded from by other states not following those specific regional customs.

Introduced by Senator Arthur Callahan on 14 O.L 1747

Cosponsored by Senator Samuel de Langford

    ISSUED AND PROCLAIMED,

HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, Peter III Anthony, Holy Orenian Emperor, King of Curon, Renatus, Salvus, and Seventis, Protector of the Heartlanders, Highlanders, and Farfolk, etcetera.
