Born, orphaned, and raised a guttersnipe of Oren’s streets, Shade was never fated for grandeur or importance. He had Heartlander blood in him, but in truth he was a nobody. He worked as he lived: in the shadows, always unnoticed and unseen. He ate what he could find, and took what he could take. He never knew his family, all he knew was people, and how to use them. He started off as a petty criminal, stealing valuables and pawning them off. Life is harsh, and its only promise is surprises, but Shade was always prepared. As time went on he became more cynical and bitter, cursing the nobility and openly insulting the Church of Canon. Eventually, he turned to assassination. He killed for coin, developing his own twisted sense of righteousness in order to justify murder. But one truth was certain: he was cracking apart, his humanity slipping away with each passing day. He began to despise himself, and though he continued his duty, he hoped for an adventure or some higher cause to come and take him from his mind’s darkness. This is where his story begins.
