Botar was born in Helena to a lower-class family. His father, like Botar, was a blacksmith who treated he and his mother poorly. Consequently, Botar underwent a rough upbringing, often walking on eggshells to avoid enraging his often drunk father.
Botar was never formally educated. However, his mother was an avid reader, and from her he picked up the habit. Botar is quite literate, though he has no credentials to back it up.
In his teenage years, Botar would learn the blacksmithing craft from his father. Conveniently, his father died soon after Botar turned 20, leaving the family business to he alone. These days, he mostly works in his shop, alone, stopping occasionally to care for/feed his frail and aging mother. His social circle is small, mostly regulated to the men at the local tavern. Despite his simple lifestyle, Botar is growingly political. He has taken a keen interest in the affairs of the Josephites, an Orenian political party of Botar's liking.
For now though, Botar's life remains (to him) empty, meaningless, directionless. He hopes one day to overcome his chronic meekness and lead a meaningful life.
