  1. Batu Tengri

    Lord_Stampede

Batu Tengri was born into a poverty stricken family of shepherds in the great steppe. He had 7 siblings all of which usually ignored Batu for being the youngest and for killing their mother. Batu's mother died in childbirth and as a result he was disliked and neglected by his father. Batu spent his childhood herding sheep through the endless and frozen steppe, until a chance encounter. One day, while pushing his fathers flock onwards over a hill a teenage Batu encountered a group of horsemen clad in armour coming under attack from packs of large wolves. Batu, using his skills as a shepherd charged the wolf pack and assisted the horsemen from escaping the savage jaws of death. After the quick scuffle the supposed leader of the group approached Batu, he was tall, his face covered in scars but bore a charming smile, he thanked Batu and asked if there was anything they could do to repay him, Batu asked if they had seen distant lands, the man said yes, Batu only asked to join them and get far away from his father. So Batu joined a gang of roaming raiders, working for the highest bidder, travelling to far away places and taking beautiful women. Batu learnt quite a lot from the gang leader who he affectionately called Uncle. he learnt to fight, to barter, to lie and to take whatever he desired. These years of banditry inspired Batu's philosophy of survival of the fittest, that the weak were meant to be dominated by the strong and that your possessions only belonged to you for as long as you could protect them. Batu never returned to his father and only grew to resent him more, eventually abandoning his fathers family name forever. Batu watched as the arrows tore apart Uncles flesh and drained his comrades of blood, Batu himself was hit by two barbed arrows in his right leg and was rendered near helpless in the slaughter. Batu watched as the elf warrioAfter slightly longer than a decade, Batu was a grown and mature adult and had taken the rank of second in charge of Uncles raiding gang. The gang had traveled deep into the lands of non humans and were taking on contracts from human warlords to sow chaos behind enemy lines. Batu has grown a great distaste for non humans as he saw half of them as near bestial barbarians and the other half as pompous weaklings, this gave him a striking sense of coldness in battle against these enemies that even chilled the local warlords. After a few months in these strange lands, Uncle decided to lay siege to an elven town bordering thick forest, he had planned to use the forest as cover and surprise attack the elf townspeople as night fell. The day before the attack Batu could sense something was wrong but could not place what was wrong, Uncle dismissed these feelings as childish pre battle jitters, Batu relented and continued with preparation for the night time raid. As the attack commenced, Batu realised he was right, something was wrong, before he could issue a warning to Uncle, elven arrows rained from the tree tops, the town were expecting the attack. Batu watched as the arrows tore apart Uncles flesh and drained his comrades of blood, Batu himself was hit by two barbed arrows in his right leg and was rendered near helpless in the slaughter. Batu watched as the elf warriors butchered his gang, unable to stand and fight he dragged himself with his knuckles into a ditch, half covered by a fallen tree. He waited in the dark as the enemy searched and taunted him with details on his battle brothers gruesome deaths, Batu could do nothing, so he prayed for the first time to the god of his ancestors, Tengri, the sky father. He prayed for the dawn so that he may flee and live to fight another day, hours he spent in silent prayer and finally his wish was granted. Dawn shined through the branches like fires of salvation and the elfs returned home. Batu crawled to the nearest human outpost and recovered from his wounds, from that day he decided to dedicate his life to glorifying Tengri through battle and swore he would not die weak and irrelevant like his father and Uncle. Batu left the outpost for the great kingdoms and empires of mankind, he adopted Tengri as his surname and now wanders the unknown in search of glory, power and a worthy opponent to finally slit his throat and let him die a legend.
