  Powergaming is usually when a character gets powers or abilities that they shouldn't have suddenly, or they overpower everyone even though they shouldn't be able to? Something like that.

  Can be all sorts of things, but imo it could be described as doing something that shouldnt be possible. It's most often a term used in CRP.
  
  This example is not powergaming because theres an attempt
  
  *John attempts to slash Jane's throat with his sword
  
  This example IS powergaming because there is no attempt or effort, and simply "happens"
  
  *John slashes Jane's throat, killing her instantly
