Hagen was born to Wilbur and Hazel Hallewell, in a small nameless village far from any prominent civilization. His early years were fairly happy and simple, but it was about to change soon. His mother died giving birth to his little brother, Oli. Even though Hagen was too young to comprehend what has happened, he still cried a lot that day. His father was also devastated but he kept himself calm because he knew has 2 boys to look after. They moved to Haense in search for a better job and a better pay. Hagen and Oli had to look after themselves when their father went to work, Hagen despised Oli at first and blamed him for his mother's death but deep down he knew that Oli was just a baby and that he couldn't do such a thing. They both became close soon, after all both of them were just kids. They were soon inseparable and were each other's best friends. Everything was going fine for Little Hagen but fate had darker plans for him. Oli soon caught the plague. Wilbur with his farmer's wage couldn't afford treatment for Oli, they turned to god, and visited the Church Of Canon every day, and prayed for Oli's recovery. All the prayers did nothing to help little Oli, he soon died a painful death while Wilbur and Hagen could only watch and try to console him. This was again a very dark time for both Wilbur and Hagen. after Oli's death, Hagen lost all his belief in karma, religion, god, etc. Wilbur blamed himself for Oli's death as he couldn't afford to pay for his treatments and got depressed, he started drinking. One day Wilbur went to drink but he never returned. 16-year-old Hagen waited for him for 2 days, and then he accepted what might have happened and then went looking for work to feed himself, he soon joined the military. Joining the military helped him take his mind off his brother and his father. Hagen was a good listener and talked to the veterans of previous wars quite often to hear their stories, what he learned while talking to them surprised him, wars against other humans were not fought for the safety of the people, it was fought so that whatever king was ruling could stay as the king. This didn't make him resent the monarchy, he admired it more, how a specific family can rule millions of people for generations and stay in power. Hagen wanted power, he soon left the army to fight for himself, to be rich, to be in powe
