Echo was born in the city of Haense. He was abandoned by his parents when he was five years old because he had no talent for the sword, or at least his parents thought. He had two siblings, both born after him, two years apart, a brother then a sister. Although he was the oldest, his younger brother was to be the next head of the house because he exhibited great talent for swordsmanship. He was kicked out of the house with a little bit of money. Soon after being kicked from his family, he ran out of money. With no money and no family to support him, he left the city with just a shortsword and the clothes on his back. He would hunt for his food and cook it over a fire that he had made himself. He created a small hut to live in near a river and continued this hunting life for eight years until he became thirteen. In the time he was living int he woods, he constantly practiced his sworsdmanship, and crafted a bow with wood and the sinew of deer and other wild animals he had hunted. His skill became great enough that when he saved a merchant who was being attacked by wolves the merchant brought him to Oren to introduce him to the leader of the guards. The leader of the guards was captivated by his primal, self-taught, sword style that held much raw power. He took him in as an honorary member of the guards and was brought up as a member of the guards until he was 18, further enhancing his abilities in swordfighting and archery and gained the trust of many of the citizens.
