Bertol grew up in Oren with his sister, Maeve. Their father supposedly fought in the Orenian-Norland war and didn't come back.
In an attempt to find answers, Bertol, his sister, and their mother travelled to Norland after they had earnt enough from selling what little they owned. The main intention was to discover what had actually become of his father, though they found there was no confirmation of his passing during the war, in fact, there was no mention of him enlisting either. It seemed as though he had simply walked out one day, and never turned back.
The remaining family stayed in Norland for a while, working the fields to scrape by as the children grew. However, winters can be harsh and so they lost their mother to the recent frost.
Still uncertain about their future and where they are meant to settle and plant roots, the siblings know that despite everything else; as long as they stay in each others company, they will manage to get by.
