As a child growing up in a war ridden land, Taro was left to wander alone until the age of 13. Since his parents died at such a young age (4), he hardly learned knew how to speak until then. At 13, he was found by a band of mercenaries, and followed them. At this point, he was given a bow and arrow, and thought to use it. He learned how to shoot and hunt for himself first, but soon the band began taking him to battle. Just as war and conflict brought a great darkness into his life, it also brought him a light. He grew so attached to his friends in the mercenary band, and to the bow at his side, that made him feel as though for the first time, he could actually protect himself. For the first time, he didn't sit at the fire alone. He had people to laugh and talk with. Though war can be cold, nothing compares to the frostbite of solitude. This was something Taro knew well. During his time there, he learned swordsmanship as well, but the bow was always his specialty. His body grew strong, despite still being rather thin.
Eventually, many of his comrades from the band moved on with their lives and some lost it, but they left him with purpose. To be someone who can fight and protect.
