Vullen's parents arrived from Arcas and settled on the island of Haelun'or, though well away from any of the more popular cities. Being shipwrights, his parents made sure he was well acquainted with the process of building boats from an early age. He was also instilled with a love for the sea from a young age. However, being a curious child, he always wanted to know more about his heritage and fellow elves. His parents had interacted with a variety of cultures and races, and had manage to lose any ingrained xenophobia or sense of superiority. Later, they lost their first son, Vullen's older brother, in the War of the Ironwood, before they went to Almaris. They were aware and fearful of the superiority complex of many High Elves, and wanted their son to stay away from regular high elven culture. Vullen was told about his brother, but later on he began to think he was only told this to keep him away from the cities. Regardless, he had a joyful childhood. He and his parents sang often and well, so he developed a love for music. Even though his parents never aimed to give him a complete formal education, he could read well too. However, Vullen's ambition and curiosity about the rest of the world left him discontented as the years went by. Though his parents were worldly, they were overprotective and hesitant to let him interact with High Elves so as not to expose him to any notions of High Elven supremacy. As Vullen became increasingly distant and unsympathetic, his parents began to fear they would lose him. Eventually, his mother and father sat him down to tell him about the rest of their people. They portrayed their kin as unfair, self-important, and contrived. Vullen, however, viewed all of their speech as overly colorful and unfair to the rest of his race. He was tired of living in a small, white, house, and decided the best thing for his future would be to become independent and leave. He let his parents know in advance, and though they were fearful of what kind of elf he would become, they were resigned and accepting. They knew Vullen wouldn't mature interacting with anyone but his parents, and conscious that they had been overprotective, they were at peace. Vullen decided to leave, not sure what direction he'd head in. However, he knew that he would eventually settle back in one of the cities of Haelun'or. Content and determined, he set off.
