Umbra was born to his mother in the Kingdom of Haense after she immigrated from Elvenesse. He and his mother struggled to maintain a permanent residence and spent most of their time living off the streets and moving from place to place trying to start a better life, but often having to resort to petty thievery to eat for the day. When Umbra was 19 his mother became very ill and he spent most of his time making sure she could eat and try and afford medicine for her, his mothers condition worsened and she passed away in her sleep the night before his 20th birthday. He was so devastated he hastily packed their things and moved to the capital city Karosgrad hoping to get a fresh start.
