The story of Cervidaeamon I remember when i first saw the human kind. I was young, still living with my mother on the edge of the woods along with my brothers and sisters. it was a peaceful day, as were all days then. i was watching a frog study a worm crawling from under a large rock, waiting for the perfect opportunity to leash out it's tongue and suck it up. I heard a strange noise nearby, and out of curiosity, i wondered out of the meadow where the deer roamed and as i got closer to the edge where a great cliff was, i saw boats. not like the boats i was used to seeing my father in when he went out onto the river. these were large boats, enough to fit five hundred elves on. they were crossing the great sea, coming straight towards us. I ran back to the large oak tree where we had built our home inside of the hollow opening at the base of the tree. I told my mother of what i saw and she told of the humans who were on those boats, what they had done in the past to our kind and to our lands. she gathered a few items to carry, and told us to do the same. we retreated deeper into the forest to avoid contact with them. as the night grew dark, we gathered into a cave and waited. nothing happened, so we fell asleep. We were awoken by the smell of charred wood. as we opened our eyes, they burned from the smoke that was pushing its way towards us. Mother had nothing to say, only a desperate look in her eyes. She was alone with us, our father away on a long journey to the mountains. we stayed there, for what felt like weeks. when the smoke finally cleared, mother felt it safe to return. When we arrived cautiously, there was nothing left of what we used to call home. the tree we lived in had been severed near the base, along with hundreds of others. the soft ground had become sticky with mud and debris left by the humans. all of the flowers in the meadow lay flat and lifeless. I heard a loud cry from out in the distance, i ran as my mother begged me to come back, but i had to see what the cry was coming from. as i ran, i felt my feet getting wet, and as i looked down, they were covered in blood. not my own blood, but the blood of deer. i could smell it as i did when they would come close to me, allowing me to reach out my hand. it is a smell that is unmistakeable. Deer are the strongest creatures of the forest, their life force is strong and it is said that their spirit goes on to become the stars in the sky, represented by the points of the antlers. I became filled with rage as i ran, but it left me once i stumbled across a baby fawn, no more than a few weeks old. It was crying for a mother that was nowhere to be seen. I picked it up and gently carried it back to my mother who took it into her arms and held it as she began to cry. Seeing that small creature left defenseless and alone, knowing that the humans were responsible for it, i vowed that i would never let them take life from the forest again. As i grew, so did the fawn. we became best friends and i learned to speak and listen to what it had to say. My mother named me cervidaeamon, cervidae which meant "deer" and a word "Eamon" meaning guardian. I became the guardian of the deer, and i have had that name for all these years. Now i live alone in a forest near a tall mountain, close enough to keep an eye on the humans who live in houses of stone and iron, but far enough from them to remain hidden and secret, waiting for them to foolishly stumble once again.
