Sylan was born to a well off family of wood elves in the Vale of Nevaehlen. From an early age, he proved to not be very book-smart, nor very strong. Because his parents had the elven curse of infertility, he was an only child. This made his parents push him to be successful, making him try many different things before the young elf discovered he had an affinity for archery. From there on out, his father would take him on hunting trips, where he learned to put his skill to use. One day when Sylan was only 10 years old he discovered the dead body of a traveler who had been killed by bandits. It horrified him, and despite his fathers best efforts, he was scarred for life. In time, he overcame the fear of death, but still harbored one for undeath.
