Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.” "Well thank you much m'lady" Joannes says in an accent that gives away he is not from here. "You say you been expecting me, but I don't think I've had the pleasure." He looks nervous, his eyes shifting back and forth from item to item in the room. He awkwardly takes a seat, pushing his gear out of the way as he manages to almost impale himself. "I'm just traveling, are you some kind of witch or somethin?" "First your story young man. Then, if its good, maybe I'll give you a reward - I don't get to talk to many new people these days." She sits in her chair, staring at him expectantly - her features soft but her eyes telling him that she can see right through him. "Well, I uh..." Joannes says as he looks around, his gut telling him that maybe he won't be able to leave without telling him his story. "Well, you see, M'lady (stumbling over M'lady, putting it in at the last second) I left home not three years ago after my pa told me that my youngest brother was old enough to take my place." He smiles at the mention of his younger brother, you can see in his eyes that he misses him dearly. "I was a lil offended, as I thought pa was just kicking me out. That was until he gave me this here pack and sword!" Joannes shows off his sword, it is well taken care of. The pack sits on his back comfortably, not very full but also well taken care of - the patches in it are well done. Joannes beams at that, this is the smile of someone who has very little else that he truly owns. "So then pa told me that he wanted me to get out into the world, see what it holds" Joannes says with a bit of a travel weary face. "So I set out, and boy have I traveled a lot. I've met so many kind people, and a few bad eggs too. Most of them have been kind, and I have even earned some coin!" Joannes looks proud followed by a look of mortification. "Not a lot though, like not even enough to be stolen from" he says panicked absentmindedly clutching his pocket. "Well thank you very much young man" the old woman says, her eyes becoming more kind. "The reward I have for you is not much but it might bring you good luck in tough times" she says. She then reaches into a drawer and pulls out a necklace - it seems to be made of amber and encompass a small stone that seems to glow in the candlelight. Joannes gazes at it in wonder, she can tell he will cherish it as he doesn't seem to own much. "May it bring you good fortune, now you must be on your way if you wish to reach the next town before nightfall!" Joannes stands and says, "thank you much m'lady - I will cherish this forever." He places the necklace on himself and turns to leave, faltering only a second before heading out of the tent into the wide world that awaits him.
