Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.” ((How do you respond?) Kalastin's face tightened, and her eyes scanned the woman, as if to look deep into her soul. Her trust did not lie with anyone--let alone people she didn't even know. After an awkward pause, she let go of her anxiety. The woman wasn't threatening in the slightest. She slid over to the cushion and sat down with her legs crossed. "Who are you? Kalastin questioned--"I don't know anybody. I am not the one you seek, I think." She stopped herself from revealing more. The woman just smiled. "Maybe not. Maybe I am just crazy," she chuckled, "Please, still tell me your story." Kastalin staggered. She didn't have time to stay. She had better things to be doing, like... Like what? Her pity overtook her, and she took a breath before starting to speak, "I am Kastalin. I am a highlander from the north, and I am trying to seek refuge. Where? I don't know." Kastalin wanted to end there, maybe kindly leave and keep travelling, but she found herself still talking, "I come from war--She suddenly stopped. What if she got found? Was this a trap? She got up from the cushion. "I am sorry. I have said too much." She tossed a few coins on the ground as an apology and crept out of the tent. As soon as the daylight hit her, she ran, weaving past the crowds in the street towards a large clump of trees. Stupid, stupid, stupid! Her mind remarked. It only fueled her sprint, and she quickly hid behind a tree as she got to the forest. Kalastin lay back against the stump. What was she thinking? Someone would surely be after her. She decided to keep walking into the forest, in hopes of finding a new village to rest at. Backstory: Kalastin used to work as a mercenary in the north, doing the rather messy jobs others couldn't do. However, her work was short-lived, as she was caught at 19 by those of higher power. Kalastin sustained multiple injuries and ended up as a slave forced into war, where she then escaped from the battlefield, albeit with no real plans. Now, she is constantly moving across a variety of territories, relying solely on her skills to survive.
