Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"You, uh... expected me?" she asked warily, looking the old woman up and down. After determining that the old hag posed no danger, she slowly took a seat on the cushion that was suggested to her.
While looking around and taking in the mysterious interior of the tent, she finally began speaking, "To put it simply, I ran away from home..." she sighed, slumping in her seat. "My family is-" she paused, "was, not the best. My mother passed early on when I was around seven years old, she died while giving birth to my twin brothers," her expression started to darken. "After that my father was... never the same again, and he... he started to drink more and stopped taking care of us, his children." she slumped further. "He pulled me out of school, saying that since I was the oldest female, I should take care of my siblings and the house." By now her face was twisted and sour, while bringing up these unpleasant memories.
She took a moment to calm herself down, speaking about the past always messed with her mind. After taking deep breaths, she started again, "I went through a lot, and after some time I realized the only way to escape was to flee from home" her expression saddened a little here. "I didn't want to leave my younger siblings alone in the hands of that man, but I had no other choice if I ever wanted a better life for myself..." she nodded slowly, like she was trying to justify her reasoning. " While traveling, I heard from people I could acquire education here, which I have been dying to re-engage with ever since I was forbidden from studying." She was starting to get her spark back while talking about the topic. "So here I am, ready to explore and learn."
