Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.” ((How do you respond?)) Joseph sat down on the cushion, “My story? Well, it starts in a small, insignificant town many leagues from here, where I was born to a farmer and his wife. I grew up in that town, tilling the fields, harvesting crops, and herding cattle. But on a sunny day of the year of my 19th birthday, a band of raiders attacked a nearby village, it was then that I decided that someone needs to defend the villages and travelers. So I took up a sword and shield and trained for many months; now I travel these roads as a guard to anyone that may need the protection. And that is what brings me here to this town.

Rowan eased himself onto the cushion: “I was born to a small farming family and learned early that hard work and a steady hand keep people alive. When raiders burned a nearby village in my youth, I took up a spear with the local militia and found I was better at standing between danger and the helpless than I ever was at plowing fields. Since then, I’ve walked the roads as a guard and wanderer, helping where I can and sending coin home when the work is good. I’ve got no noble blood to boast of, only a stubborn will, a fair sword arm, and a habit of doing what’s right even when it costs me. I’d rather settle matters with words, but if someone threatens the innocent, I won’t wait for the first blow. That’s my story — I go where I’m needed, protect who I can, and hope one day to earn a quiet place to lay the sword down.”
