Elisif never had any biological parents. None that she knows.
In the icy north of Norland an orphaned child lies bundled in linen cloth. A sickly and wilted that by miraculous happenstance was taken in under the wing of the local indigenous. Elisif had no parents but had surrogates plenty.
She lacks formal education. Where she'd learned to read and write and practice the magical arts she'd instead learned how to fletch and nock arrows. Elisif learned how to loose a shot and hunt cleanly and was acquainted with the hedge and informal alchemy practiced by her herbal wound-tenders. There were no teachings of law or property for out in the iced scapes of the wild Norland, far beyond any walls, there were none.
Time however is a fickle thing. It rises empires just as it drags them to the cold earth where only the worms tell their stories of ruin. As Elisif grew older so too did her elders and friends and found family. Before long the numbers the rag-tag band of nomadic hunter-gatherers had become a diminished fragment of what had been.
They hadn't the numbers then when they were attacked. Out there in the snow in the iced scapes of the wild Norland where nature was the only law. Far beyond any walls.
Lycans attacked and they left no prisoners. Elisif lives only off the shoulders of sacrifice. She doesn't know of any survivors other than herself. Maybe that's why she finds herself at the Imperial heartland that stood such a far cry from her accustomed way of life. Maybe she sought to start anew. To find safety and shelter behind erected walls of stone.
Or maybe it was what she kept telling herself. That she was going to find the beasts that attacked her kin. That she only needed a temporary place to stay.
