Effect(s) of Artifact:

Allows the user to examine the structure of a soul and record its appearance by etching the vision of the soul to a lens. The artifact has four lenses already installed and a new one can be installed with a few minutes time. The creation of additional lenses is a relatively simple ritual. 

Red Lines of Artifact:

• Can only be used on a subdued or willing target. The usage of the lens requires several minutes of tuning in order to get a clear image, and cannot be used on a target that is not strapped down, unconscious, or willingly submitting to an examination.
•  While it is possible to determine extreme modifications to a soul caused by unholy magics or deific influence, it is not readily apparent what these changes cause. It cannot be used to identify the dark nature of an individual at a glance, and while close examination might reveal a being’s true nature, a normal soulfire test would work just as well and more quickly regardless.
• The glasses only allow an individual to see and examine a soul, comprehension of what the viewer is witnessing requires considerable study of numerous subjects, similar to examining the inside of a human body.

Explanation of effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):

The glasses act as a blend of ruinous, rapturous, and lunar Ascended infusions. The Soulseeker’s eyes are activated by a continuous trickle of soulfire from the user which acts to stir the soulfire sitting within each lens. For each use the mixture of rapturous to ruinous soulfire and level of agitation must be adjusted until the subject’s soul fully comes into focus. Before this the soul would appear as nothing more than a hazy, featureless blob. Once the subject is brought into focus the image of the soul can be captured on one of the lenses with a brief burst a flame, etching the image on the glass. This image would form a clear distortion when soulfire is once again passed through the lens at a later time, slowly forming the image of the soul in question.

The Soulseeker’s Blades are a collection of surgical implements that allow for much more precise application of soulfire, both ruinous and rapturous. To someone who is able to ‘see’ a soul it allows an individual to dissect the unnatural parts of a soul, slowly unravelling an individual’s essence until they eventually expire. 

Red Lines of Artifact:

• Due to their delicate nature the tools cannot be used to kill an aggressive foe. They can be used to dispatch someone who is subdued or unconscious.
• The tools need to be recharged after each use due to the heavily refined nature of the infusion.
• While the tools would be able to assist in examining an unaltered soul, they would be unable to do any damage to an untainted individual (they could still be used to physically cut someone, of course).
• The tools are nearly useless without some method of perceiving the shape of an individual’s soul (such as the SoulSeeker’s Eyes) and useage would be akin to a blindfolded surgeon flailing his scalpel wildly.
• The tools are not able to permanently remove any sort of unnatural soul modification that could not normally be removed by regular soulfire. Due to the invasive nature of most dark magics any significant removal of tainted soul essence will result in the subject expiring.

Explanation of effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):

The SoulSeeker’s Blades are essentially a collection of other, common Ascended infusions refined to a point of absolute precision.The many knives include both rapturous and ruinous soulfire infusions in various degrees of strength and precision.. Among the collection of surgical implements are a few lunar infused items as well, for usage in moving and examining the unaltered portions of the soul.

When secured to the neck of a dark magic user or dark creature it prevents the usage of magical abilities. In essence it acts similar to standard rapturous soulfire, without the weakening of the body or rendering the subject unconscious.

Red Lines of Artifact:

• Can only be secured to the neck of an unconscious, subdued, or willing victim.
• Needs to be recharged after each use.
• The collar can be removed via physical means with some time and difficulty. This does not mean it can be ripped off with ease in the heat of action, but can instead be removed after a few minutes of struggle.
• Cannot be used for long-term storage. A charge will typically last for a single duration of interrogation(one session of RP).

Explanation of effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):

The collar is tuned in such a way that it is able to detect the minute fluctuations of unholy energies that normally indicate the casting of spells. When such energy is detected it releases some of its internally held rapturous flame and essentially ‘counteracts’ the casting. While acting in such a capacity, however, it does not physically weaken the target or render them unconscious as typical rapturous soulfire would do. The item is activated and locked by pressing a hand against the Ideogram and channeling a spark of soulfire into it. The collar is likewise deactivated with such a spark, or can be removed with a little time and effort.

Summarize the Lore of this magic(s): The magic of the Ascended has existed in some form or another from Aegis until the present, with only one major interruption post-Aegis. The general purpose of the magic is two fold. First, practitioners of the magic are to use its holy might to wage war against whomever Aeriel deems are her enemies, these being both those with corrupted souls, and beings of higher power that may be corrupting said souls. Secondly, Ascended are to use their magic to assist wayward souls in passing on, and either repairing or destroying damaged souls so that they can do no damage to the soulstream. At the highest pinnacle of Ascended training certain individuals are taught the ritual of connection in order to bring more Ascended into the fold. While this is primarily taught to the Sages of each sect, this knowledge may also be imparted to trusted and battle-hardened Ascended known as Elders.

There are three main branches of the Ascended flame, ruinous, rapturous, and the weakened demi-ascended flame of the arcane users. Of the forms Selina will be teaching Ruinous represents the necessary force of Aeriel's will. Ruinous Ascended are gifted with a flame that is capable of burning away corruption in its entirety. Ruinous soulfire is, unlike rapturous, rather painful and is used to eliminate threats quickly, instead of containing them. Ruinous Ascended are able to use the whole array of holy abilities provided to the Ascended, from summoning flames, to using soul-mending, to creating braziers and infusing items with embers. They also benefit from the standard passive abilities of Ascended and are capable of using psychopomps, among other such rituals.

Demi-Ascended soulfire represents the arcane branch of the Ascended order. Due to the mixture of holy and arcane in a person the flame is rather weak ,reaching only a T1 in potency, and as such many holy gifts are gated off to such Ascended.

Write up a lesson that your character would give to a student:

"Soulfire is the cornerstone of the Ascended order. Every Ascended, from the most battle hardened warrior to the simple scholar must master the art of it. Through the use of the flame are we able to carry out our sacred duty. With it we are able to purge our enemies of impurities and drive the darkness from their souls. Understand that as Ascended you are the chosen warriors of Aeriel. While we of the blue sect may be the vanguard, the tip of the spear, every Ascended is meant to fight and bleed in the service of our holy lady."

Selina turns to the initiates sitting in front of her and nods, pacing halfway across the dias she stands upon before turning back to them.

"I expect from each of you that when I am done with you that the flame will be a part of you, an extension of your body and soul. Now, you should know from Master Delaselva the nature of a soul, so I see no point in rehashing the details. Instead I will focus on practicalities, and nothing but. First, Soul flame will only hurt those who have been marked as enemies of Aeriel. What does this mean? First, it means that the flame will greedily seek out and feast upon the taint that may be hidden in a soul or, in some situations, in spellcraft. A shade's tendrils, for example, will be attacked by the flame. Now which will win will of course depend not only on the strength of each attacker, but also on their technique."Secondly, our magic can attack higher beings who have been identified by Aeriel as her enemies. Examples of this would be both Iblees and Setherein. Now, while the argument could be made that their souls were... 'unaltered', understand also that their magic was twisted and corrupted, causing the degradation and destruction of the souls of those who served under them. Beyond that understand that our flame is not a natural one, but a holy one, a manifestation of Aeriel's holy power made manifest through the focus of our soul. As such it does not burn like a true flame, nor does it cause harm to those not marked by unholy magics."

Selina paces back to the center of the dais, pausing for a moment before turning back to her students. She reaches out her left hand, clad in an aurum gaunlet, and slowly turns her palm towards the sky.

"Now, students, follow my instructions.  Close your eyes and breath out. Focus and understand, you are no longer human, nor elf, nor mortal; you are Ascended. Understand that there is an innate holiness inside of you now, gifted to you by Aeriel. It fills every fiber of your being, inhabits every thought. Her divine might runs through your blood. Call upon this power now, and as you inhale, inhale that energy into your palm, focus all of that holiness, that raging fire of righteous fury into your hand. Now, hold that breath for a moment... do you feel it? As you exhale, let that energy slowly escape, but not back into you, but into your palm. As it escapes let it begin to flicker and burn, pulling fuel and power from you... Now, open your eyes."

Selina cracks a smile as she observes the small, weak flames fluttering in her students hands, their embers seeming to be almost children of the brilliant flame raging in her hand. After a moment she nods and closes her fist, her fire quickly extinguishing.

"Good. I'll expect all of you to practice this over the next week. When we meet next we will be practicing this again under stress, I expect each of you to be able to do this almost as a reflex by the month's end. Dismissed."

In the small chamber inside the medical wing of Bastion Selina stood watch over her single patient. A sense of exhaustion seemed to sit over her body, her features, normally young and full of life, appeared drained and aged by the month of work and toil. With a faint, forced smile the old Ascended set her hand on the man shoulder, speaking quietly. "Rest, now. I will be your shield against all that ails you until you wake. We've need of you yet."

He's my student. I approve of this sugar cookie powered half pint Ascended of pure and righteous holy rage.

Thats strategy. Lure the guards away from the city and attack the civilians. But if clerics can have wards that can block dark users from passing, dark users should have wards that block holy magic users from passing also.

Well the Sunless sanctum kills anyone who enters it and I've been informed (though I've no idea if this is true or not) that it's apparently super effective against holy users. I'd also emphasize that to my understanding holy wards work against dark 'beings', not the users of dark magic.

Not trying to be pushy or anything, but could I possibly get an ETA on when this will be looked at? It's been up for two weeks and I've not heard a peep. I even spoke to a member of the MAT (I don't remember which one) a week ago and they said they would get someone right on it, but I haven't had any feedback since.
