  1. An old elf, having recently ambled into the city, walks up to the noticeboard where a handful of elves are reading the missive. Having skimmed it, he chuckles, then turns to the crowd.

"Heed not the words of elavern'thrur. While the city certainly may seem more empty than I remember, I don't see old Braxus here proposing a solution. It's such a shame, most of us find peace, tranquility and wisdom as we grow old. This one lost his marbles and started exclaiming Larihei must've been a deity, undermining her efforts as a mere mortal like the rest of us who try, hard as we can, to follow in her footsteps.

Elheial'malauriran no longer deems your title as one of our peers valid, Ni'leya, and you know this."

He steps back towards the missive, and crosses out the word Malaurir before walking off once more.

  2. After the main ceremony concludes, an old elf stands up and takes a bow to the newlyweds. He turns to the gathering, as a glass floats into the air by itself and emits a single melodious *ding*. The patriarch clears his throat, his goatee fluttering with excitement.

"Friends, descendants, little ones, I cannot express in words my gratitude to still be around to experience this, the wedding of my youngest's youngest. That after these many years of courtship," he winks towards Theveus "these two may finally commit to dancing the dance of the centuries together. An occasion all too rare these modern times, filled with strife and uncertainty. Lest we forget, Haelun'or is at the forefront not only of wisdom and science, but also culture and tradition." He turns back towards the pair, now grinning widely, the rare sight of a set of pearly whites appearing from behind the old-timer's beard. "Cresence, I am left with nothing to say but welcome to the family of progress, and the best of luck to you both in your joined endeavours.

    Maehr'sae Hiylun'ehya!"

  3. An ancient elf pours himself another drink. A deep, exasperated sigh echoes throughout the streets of Haelun'or. A single tear battles its way out of a blind eye. A bedroom starts to collect dust. A serpent slithers on.

"Why must the good ones always die young."

  4. The notes by the missive pile up:

"My what a surprise, for a citizen of Nevaehlen not to show up in Haelun'or after a number of her neighbours had already been taken prisoner for no reason other than their allegiance. No offense, young Miravaris, but a Maheral mustn't stoop to propaganda, nor is it their place to offer threats of judgement by the pariran'tir. Should you truly wish to promote the progress such as Larihei intended, perhaps you should take more time promoting the library.

You also appear to have mistitled yourself. One becomes Malaurir after their Maheraldom, if the council of Animals sees fit. Unless you plan on stepping down already.

It seems the "young Maheral" experiment was not a success.

    Malaurir Sythaerin

  5. As a certain very old elf finds the missive, a cacophony of frustrated and confused sounds could be heard throughout the city. Soon after, a countermissive is posted.

"Baseless slander must not be tolerated within elcihi'thilln. What lead you to denounce elmaheral I do not know, oem'ii. Unless you have resided within Haelun'or as a hermit recently, I would not know how or when you have experienced any of this so-called 'chaos', as I certainly have not seen you around. What I do know, is to speak of our history, our grace, even our bloodlines, without having a proper grasp on the present or future, only leads to more uproar. I dare not say I agree with some of the recent goings-on within our political climate, yet if anything you appear to have pinned the blame on the wrong leader.

You have failed your bloodline before, she who never was. Yet here you are, claiming a title you do not hold - as elmalauriran of the blessed times you yourself speak of once stripped you of it. And to all those who would be deceived by this unsubstantiated piece of defamation, I ask you to pay no mind to this hypocrisy of the highest regard.

    Origins & History

In the times before Haelun’or’s founding, a pair of well-learned Elves lived within the forest city of Laurelin. Theveus, a tailor, and Alyss, a scholar with a particular interest in the arcane, often found themselves unable to unwind at the end of the day. A life without progress was a boring one, to them.

Centuries passed, and the pair had finally found their peers. Under the guidance of Larihei Lohmanih, who acknowledged and embraced their ambitions, they joined the first generation of what would later become known as Mali’Aheral. In the years to come, they would bear a single child, who went off to learn about the world by himself once he was of age, as his father had done before him. As Aegis fell, their story ended. But the family they founded would become a prosperous one over a century later, upon their son’s return to Haelun'or.

Once Silvos returned, he quickly found himself befriending a particularly curious Mali’thilln known as Kalenz Uradir, who would show him the way of the scholar. It was there that the true expression of his familial thirst for progress could finally be realized. He’d soon find himself enamoured with a female scholar, Hileia’Vione Akeleh, who he would come to marry and have four children with over the coming centuries, thereby ensuring his bloodline’s continued existence.

After the fall of Asulon, Haelun’or refounded itself in Lin’Evaral. Here, the Sythaerin family became a known staple within the community. The first Haelun’orian laboratories were constructed, and within it Silvos thrived as okarir’maehr. Three of his children would soon do as he did when he was younger, and leave to travel the world, giving in to their own curiosity. The remaining daughter married a High elf that could match the ambition and drive of her father, by the name of Kalameet Izalith, soon after which the both of them took their leave from Haelun’or as well.

It would be a long time before the occasional Sythaerin returned to Haelun’or, their old family father always still there, running the labs, until eventually retiring to travel the continents they’d moved to by himself. Centuries later, in Arcas, the laurir came to the gates with three of his descendants, spread across the generations, to give the wheel of progress another good spin. They remained for a few decades, then vanished once more as abruptly as they’d appeared.

Finally, the Mali’aheral found themselves living in Aevos. A colossal continent, with ample opportunity to explore and wander. The patriarch, finally convinced he should rest, handed the family’s leadership over to his great grandson Sorcaril. Along with a handful of other descendants, he would come to usher in the new era of Sythaerin prosperity.

    Culture & Traits

Since the early days of Haelun’or, Sythaerins have been curious types. The family head, being an overly curious nerd, founded the laboratories. By this example, most Sythaerins will be driven and direct, though potentially neurotic should one disagree with their ideals or stand in the way of their personal progress. Many of them find themselves unable to remain in one place for too long, expressed by traveling the continent to alleviate their wanderlust.

Sythaerins, as most Mali’aheral, have tall, slender builds. Their hair is predominantly a light blonde, turning platinum with age. Their eye colours range from purple to cyan, slowly turning darker with age. Historically Sythaerins have not been physically impressive as they’ve pursued the voidal arts, yet restraining from such as most have done in recent years does allow for considerably lean or even bulky physiques.

    Symbolism

The Sythaerin crest and other family memorabilia often feature the serpent, a nickname given to Silvos in his younger years in reference to his creation of acid, as well as his companion. Sythaerin family colours are dark cyan and evergreen tones, cleft by a slither of silver.

  7. I've given my feedback on discord but I'll put in my 2 cents here publicly.

When you first sent me this, I identified it as basically a rewrite of Telekinesis. Seeing the final product, that definitely has not changed, thus I will be handling it as such. Take this not as a criticism (I obviously loved TK) but as an observation.

Although I commend you for your work and find the way you've handled the progression reasonable, you've included several spells that were originally excluded from TK (notably influencing someone's equipped weapon and what is essentially flight). Considering TK has been shelved due to it being found potentially OP in combat, reintroducing the prior is problematic, putting it lightly.

Aside from that, I find the lore/background a tad lackluster, even if it very closely resembles the actual origins of telekinesis on the server.

I wish you the best and hope this opens the door to a collaborative effort to reintroduce TK to LotC in a way everybody is happy and it's properly regulated, but I can't fully give this version my blessing and request you remove me from the credits.

    It's been enough...

    aaaa.png

For the first time in what seems like months, the okarir’Maehr makes his way out of the laboratory district,
and looks over the square. Guarding his eyes from the blinding light, he mumbles ”It’s been enough.”

With a confused look on his face, he greets those around him as if he's never met any of them.

Strolling through the city, reliant on his cane, he coninues to make passing remarks.

”Why do they keep changing the layout of this city?”

”Where is Kalenz when you need him?”

    ”What happened to Hileia?”

Before long, he is greeted by a citizen as “Okarir’Maehr”

    ”What? You mean okarir’Tayna, surely?”

The old elf's mind failed him once more, before snapping out of the alzheimer’s-infused episode and making way to the council chambers.
A note was put up on the noticeboard near the gate later that day.

”Okarir’Maehr position vacant. Off to do research at the Mage's Guild. Be back soon.
    -S.A. Sythaerin”

  9. 2sB4LPB.png

The old elf sighs once more, before shrugging. Only briefly standing up, he offers a final response.

It becomes evident then this is the topic that shall denote our difference. To enjoy our greatness, regardless of the opinions of mere lessers, and focus on pursuing progress within elcihi. Or to spread our knowledge with them, spending time and resources on their education, instead of on things such as research and self-improvement. I look forward to finding out which you shall prefer, lliran.

  10. i15BZlK.png

Silvos, having taken a seat within the crowd again, lifts himself up in order to make a rebuttal. He sighs, before speaking toward Elahern.

As I mentioned within my speech, I can assure you a suitable and lasting remedy has been found to subdue the results of my age. To dismiss my preemptive addressing of this aspect of my wellbeing is a tad redundant, in my opinion.

He straightens his coat, alternating his gaze between Elahern and the crowd.

As for your additional statements, I feel I must point out the slight contradiction in your intentions. Allowing those from other nations to also enroll in the college, whilst at the same time wishing to resolve the security risks these outsiders have caused in the past merely seems like creating more work for little benefit. After all, should we not focus more on keeping our own citizens educated, allowing teachers to spend more time with students in private sessions instead of having them waste time explaining concepts to foreigners who are presumably far behind on the knowledge our citizens will have grown up with?
In times like these, where we are only now coming out of a long period of internal strife, I firmly believe we should focus first on regaining proper structure for our own citizens to share their knowledge, rather than waste it on lessers and potential impures.

Lastly, I would like to address your plans about constructing a campus. This coincides with my statement about not needing to open up the college to outsiders: Is the entire city not our campus? Why construct dormatories for those studying at the college, provided they live mere minutes of walking away? Why construct working areas when the college already has a study, and the citizens have access to laboratories and an expansive library with plentiful reading areas as well?

With that, Silvos walks back to his chair, and takes a seat once more.

  11. An old elf returns to the city. Trembling hands, now still. Shivering legs, now sturdy. A tired face, now determined. As the bearded father of the serpent family enters the citadel, he spreads his arms wide, and walks up to the podium. His voice sounds clearer, crisper than a few elven days ago.

My dearest citizens. Brethren, sisters, lliran. I took a small excursion to take care of some business, and I have returned to find elcihi has once again undergone a political revolution. A system of elections, where the voice of the people shall once again determine which mali’thill is most fit to guide elHaelun’or to a better future. A system very similar to the one we had in Anthos, during the days of Lin’evaral. A system… I very much agree with. But I digress…

It shall not come as much of a surprise that I, Silvos Sythaerin, hereby nominate myself for the position of Okarir’maehr as well. As the eldest pursuer of progress our society knows, I can assure you I am the most fit for the position. I shall run through the positions systematically, presenting to you why it would be in elMaehr’sae Hiylun’ehya’s best interest to once again allow me to fill this tough, yet incredibly rewarding seat on the council.

    Deanship of the College
As one who hosts a class himself, and has attended all hosted classes in the past, it can be concluded I am one who greatly supports the College. Being one of the oldest, most knowledgeable Elves on varying subjects due to my history of working within the laboratories,  as well as constructing and reorganizing the libraries in centuries long past, it is only logical I would oversee the distribution of knowledge within our Blessed city. I hope to be able to inspire its students to expand their knowledge up to the point where they shall be able to create knowledge themselves, as I have done in the past.

    Overseer of the Tilruir’Indor
Having worked closely with the Eternal Librarian miss Lelien Lazul herself in the past for decades, it is evident overseeing the inner workings of the library and cooperating with a colleague of high intellect and love for our extensive archives of knowledge fits right in with my interests. I am certain, if I am elected, I shall greatly enjoy finding a fitting tilruir to entrust with this incredibly rewarding task.

    Maester of the Laboratories
After my recent appointment to once again fill the reworked position of Okarir’tayna, I have immediately taken action. Using my telekinetic art, the revival of the Eternal Laboratories was made a reality. I am saddened by, and sorry for, my absence during this turmoil causing them to go unused so far, yet I can ensure you that whether I am elected or not, I shall keep the promises I made upon their opening. I shall guide the progress, I shall accommodate the research, I shall keep you safe.

    Maintenance of the Campus
As a teacher, explorer and scientist, I know all too well the importance of proper supplies and facilities. I shall pay out of my own pockets should it become necessary for the College to continue to educate and facilitate progress in an efficient and desirable manner!

    Advice and enrollment
As one who does not hesitate to share advice with any and all around, and as one that has attained so much of it in the past by great peers I used to walk among, such as my dearest lliran’paronn Lucion and Kalenz, I shall be open to oversee all citizens who wish to learn, and guide them to a path of enlightenment that fits both their desires and potential.

    Supervision of Professors
If I am elected, I shall be hosting interviews for all those that are convinced they have knowledge to offer on various subjects. As I have done in the past, I shall continue to attend each lecture from the balcony in my high chair, to ensure the quality of their classes and instructions. I shall be their guide.

Lastly, my lliran, I feel there is one more thing I must address: My age. I am certain there are those among you that lack faith in my health, be it physical or mental, potentially influencing the quality of my work. To those, I announce: Worry not. The excursion I took these last few days have taken care of many of my ailments, restoring me to a state healthy enough for me to give you all this entire speech without so much as a cough or a tremble.

Now, it is time for progress once more. For wisdom to be gained, distributed, and safeguarded. Here, the choice is yours, lliran. Will you vote for one who can only promise, or vote for one who has already proven his competence and wisdom in the past? The one promise I shall give you:

As I have done before, so shall I do once more.
    Maehr’sae Hiylun’ehya!

With that, the old elf takes a bow, and steps away from the podium, nodding gracefully to his competitors.

A new entrance has appeared by the Acid Pit Observatory...

    Spoiler

The newly appointed Okarir'tayna calls within the square for attention, as he gestures toward the gazebo on the other side of the fountain. The entrance to the Acid Pit Observatory, the stairwell that had been barred by a gate and a glass wall for months, was now decorated with cyan ribbons.

Silvos called out for those present to follow him down, leading the way side by side with Sohaer Miravaris. Upon entering, the citizens would notice a new telekinetic elevator, barred by a silver gate, has been constructed on the other side of the balcony, topped by a sign simply stating “The Eternal Laboratories”.

The Okarir’tayna hands the Sohaer a pair of scissors to cut the thin ribbon standing between the public and the elevator, and with a swift *snip*, the Laboratories are opened! The gate rises, and any and all mali'aheral are allowed inside to finally see the halls that will soon host a myriad of experiments, research papers and scientists. At the end of the offices a small hall branches off, aptly titled the “Hall of Discovery”. The Okarir’tayna announces:

    Mali'aheral of Lareh’thilln,

I am pleased to welcome you, finally, to the new laboratories. When I returned to elHaelun’or after my long slumber, I was appalled to find a lack of this integral institute which has allowed so many great discoveries, so much progress, in the past. The place I held most dearly within elcihi, the establishment that provided the Eternal Library with new knowledge, absent. Now, in these difficult times, the one thing we can always agree upon shall remain our loyalty to elMaehr’sae Hiylun’ehya. And Maehr’sae we shall seek once more. I am glad, that I can proudly present to you these halls with such purpose. However, at the moment they are dull, void of any research and progress in the works.

This is where I need you. On the desk beside the elevator you will find an application form which you may fill out, if you wish to join me in discovering ever more greatness. I shall provide you the space. I shall ensure your safety. I shall guide the progress. If necessary, I shall expand these halls tirelessly until every single Mali’aheral wishing to do research, can do so, right here.

I look forward to working with you.
