His father was a knight of Gaelinohr, a kingdom in the far west, ruled by the king Archos. When Acegnarus was only eleven years of age, a problem arose in the kingdom. A great and evil wizard named Darrus put a curse on Gaelinohr. Crops failed, and people were dieing of starvation and sickness. King Archos and his knights, Acegnarus’ father included, decided something must be done in order to save the kingdom from collapsing. They had to stop Darrus’ curse. They gathered as many knights as they could, a wizard as powerful as Darrus would be very hard to defeat. Darrus lived in a cave near the river that flowed in and out of the city. King Archos and his men marched on the cave and demanded that Darrus stop his curse. Darrus refused, and explained that he despised other beings, and that the kingdom would be better off devoid of live. The King had no choice but to use force. Darrus immobilized the knights with a powerful spell and Archos and Darrus fought one on one. Just as Archos got the upper hand, Darrus cast a spell that shook the cave violently, causing it to start collapsing. Archos stabbed Darrus through the heart as he cast his spell, and managed to lead some soldiers out of the cave before they collapsed, but not all had survived. The curse was ended and the kingdom saved, but Acegnarus’ tale had just begun. When Archos stabbed Darrus, he did not die. His spirit flew from his body, far to powerful to be slain by any mortal weapon. It Raced across the country side to a small house where it took up residence in a new host. For now, the curse was ended, but Acegnarus’ tale was just beginning. Acegnarus woke that night to the sound of his mother weeping. His father had been killed in the attack on Darrus’ cave. Acegnarus knew he had to take care of his mother, so he started his training as a knight, just like his father. King Archos had outlawed magic in any form since the curse of Darrus, and the mages in the kingdom were under investigation and if they seemed to be able to be trusted, they were not punished, but never allowed to use magic again. But, when Acegnarus was sixteen years old, something happened. As he was washing the dishes after supper and was wishing he could be out training, the dishes got up, and started to clean themselves. He looked out the window and around the house to see who was responsible for this magic, but nobody was to be found. A few days later, Acegnarus was sparring with his friend, Gathrin, and a root jumped out of the ground, and wound itself around Gathrin’s ankle and tripped him. Gathrin accused Acegnarus of using magic. The King saw no other explanation and was forced to banish Acegnarus. Acegnarus left in sorrow, for he was banished from his home, and could never return to his friends. It was not fair, he thought, he didn‘t do anything! He traveled out of the kingdom and through the next. He learned more detail of the great wizard Darrus, as he was a very well known wizard. He discovered, that when a wizard is as powerful as Darrus was, their spirits can live beyond their bodies from the immense source of magic. However, the magic can not sustain the spirit for long before it must find a new body. It would take over the body and the wizard would appear again. Acegnarus feared the worst, but he had to know for sure. He went to a library and looked for a spell, to test his guess. He traveled out to the forest not far from where he was staying, and muttered the incantation. Roots shot out of the ground and wrapped themselves around a tree, the spell cast perfectly. That was when Acegnarus know it was true, he was possessed by an evil wizard, but for now remained in control. He did not know how, but he was determined not to lose himself to this thing that killed his father and threatens to take over him. He traveled far and wide, always searching, never finding an answer. Until one day, while researching, he found a spell meant to remove darkness from the caster. Acegnarus quickly scribbled down the spell, and took off to a nearby meadow, where he would not be disturbed. He cleared out a patch of grass with a quick spell, and drew out a pouch of Resyn, a fine, red powder used for creating spell circles. Following the diagram he copied, he laid out the circle, and prepared to cast the spell. He sat beside the circle until dusk. He then began to chant the spell, slowly at first, and then gaining speed. Upon nearing the final words, the circle began to glow, lighting up the meadow with and eerie red light. The glow got brighter and brighter, charged with the magical power. Upon uttering the final words, a massive explosion occurred, and Acegnarus blacked out. When he awoke, he was in a comfortable bed. A friendly monk smiled at him. “Welcome to the cloud temple of Aegis.”

He never learned to read or write, and speaks as simply as a child. However, it would be a mistake to brand him as simple, or ignorant. Growing up in the forests tends to make one sharp and fast. Garmund most closely resembles a ranger of the forests. A wildsman who uses a bow and arrows. He is at home in the forest and an excellent survivor.
