Realistically, you can re-use every single bit of materials after you fail to craft something. In LotC after failing to craft a diamond axe all your diamond "magically disappear" all you have left is a stick. EDIT: fixed some typo due to buggy keyboard.

Note: English isn't my primary language so there might be some typo or mistake in this post. These are SOME of my opinions on both LoTC and this patch. + I agree with Rhisereld. + Minecraft is about building things and being creative, LoTC is about RP-elements MC+RP=fun. + This game or LoTC themselves aren't real, don't make them too realistic. + Building restriction is fine, but being bound by skills restriction isn't. + With this patch out, the restriction have prevented me from developing the character I want.
