  1. Remind yourself that this is all just my personal opinion and views...

One of the reasons I'm still active but not in-game is because after awhile, you get bored with what is going on. The roleplay will be more or less the same, you make an island far from tyranny and make it full of peace - What I originally visioned ArmaLuna as - And you... Build some stuff. And rp a bit. The lucky people are those caught up in wars, or in situations where a villain is doing a good job being... bad. That's just my personal jazz.

I imagine that more or less though, people do get bored in their own ways, because only so much can go on the way Asulon is currently set up. Along with the input everyone has added, I'd like to mention you need to think of a way to make more things happen that will effect everyone, nomatter what race, where on the map, or what their character is like. That's key to keeping the player entertained.

The map ShiftNative has shown is on the right track so far. Races aren't horribly far from each other, and they're in their respective places. I understand new lore is good, and modding api will allow certain things, but one thing I've never fully agreed with was the adding of new races. In general, as well as Lord of the Rings, the main races to consider are the Humans, Elves, Dwarves and the Orcs. The only ones I see that would be acceptable to add are Hobbits and Trolls.

Now don't let that fool you into thinking I'm against said, paragraphs content. But, Lord of the Craft to someone who's never heard of the server surely tells them, this is an rp server based off of how the fantasy in Lord of the Rings somewhat went, unless I'm mistaken otherwise, and it is JUST a name. If it's JUST a name, then it's slowly not fitting what everyone wants this to be. If you're going to add things such as new races and lore that has no part on Lord of the Rings, I would suggest changing the name of Lord of the Craft to something that more or less fits what is being created/has already been created.

Again, that's just an opinion~ Not saying it should happen or I'll kill all the watermelons in the world and rage about women in granny panties instead of thongs... seriously, just throwing my thoughts out there.

Back to the races, you need to pick each race, and decide how the internal conflict between race S will go with race E. What will happen if race X gets in the middle of it? You need to take all the possibilities, and see which one would be most exciting, and look at what would most likely make that possibility happen.

When you know what best would help create exciting conflict between each individual race, you need to plan location and circumstances that would be a cause to lead the races to conflict for it.

Let's say, add a large forest on some very high mountains. The Elves would want to protect it. The Humans would want to harvest the plentiful wood. The Dwarves would want to dig in the mountains themselves. Good place and way to stir a little bit of conflict between the nations.

Let's say you locate the Orcs in such a place that has no lakes or rivers nearby, and the only way to get water is to go THROUGH one of the lands the other races inhabit. Orcs generally aren't going to stroll by your house and wave as they pass, so they'll do the other thing most likely:

Try to take the land that is near the resources they want. In much lore, they are nomads more or less, and them constantly looking for better land to fit resource needs is a great way to stir up conflict. Again, location, location, location.

As for conflict that rises above just the races themselves. You could take the races and divide them to two sides. When doing so, which races would get along best with a certain other? My personal opinion would be Humans and Elves v.s. Dwarves and Orcs. You would need to now create something that is inbetween them not physically but emotionally too, something that will effect them even if they live as a rich, poor or physically un-attached person... Something that has meaning to them.

Possibly, can we not create something custom in the game that each race will always, highly want, such as a special ore, a special type of food, a magical land where potions can be crafted... anything... (___)

Place said above, in such a spot that conflict now goes above nations over the continent itself, in such a way that the races are forced to make a simple yet hard decision:

Do we share this land/items/etc with everyone else, or do we try and take it for ourselves?

Surely, the Elves would be willing to share if all would be ensured to go well I imagine, while I believe the Orcs would try and take it for their own. With the races siding on which part of that decision goes, you now have a continent-type conflict, such as the Orcs and Dwarves fight each other over (___) but always take sides when the Humans or Elves try to interfere and maintain control of (___).

As much as I did like the idea of living in peace as an intellectual character, it sucked, and I got bored pretty fast. I didn't want to kill off my character just to make another, and I realized even if I did, I would end up in the same spot, it's my and my characters personality, living in peace.

Unless we have no other choice, and we have to fight for the peace we desire.

Dum Dum Dum... is that excitement, drama, adventure, fear... all the good and tasty stuff I hear but don't experience? Yes, I choose not to, but if I were forced to, I would enjoy it, because I've now been given a goal - Fight for my rights.

There needs to be a lot of focus on creating a map in such a way that it can dynamically force everyone into conflict constantly, no matter if they want to be involved or not. This isn't modern day, and we don't have all the placeholds to prevent war like we do right now. Think of the time period and the world setting this is supposed to be and realize, violence and drama was one of the main reasons why we think it's so interesting, not because everyone got their way and lived happily ever after. There was always action, adventure and excitement.

In (long time ago number) people lived in small log houses. They had farms. They farmed wheat. People traded goods. The king taxed them. The king was fat. The wind blew over the plains. Clouds.

    Fk'n boring.

In (long time ago number) people constantly lived their lives day by day, appreciating a quiet and peaceful day when they were lucky enough to experience it, because they never knew when their land would be attacked and ravaged by a warring nation or tribe.

    Sounds... interesting.

Again this isn't a rant or anything of the sort, I'm just hoping through my ignorance of how this new map should be, that I can atleast give you guys some ideas of how to keep things interesting next time and hopefully build off of some of this to create a truly interesting map.

    Cheers ~ Tipsy Sin

  2. It hurts my heart to see so many people upset that they don't get more for donating. It's supposed to be a donation for the betterment of the server. They are perks because they are extra cool things the server gives you as a thank you.

Keep in mind though that 80% of 100% of the donors, me included, donated for our personal interest - We know the server will do well either way. The server HAS to give donators things to make them want to donate, because that's how a server runs, unless one of the admins are rich and can pay for all of the upkeep themselves. I'm personally happy with what we have at the moment, but I can also understand a persons frustrations when they spend hard earned money on something "written" that they expect to get, only to have it changed or meddled with because of other people complaining of change.

  4. As someone very serious about this matter, it would highly effect me in two ways, one negative, one positive.

My chances of scoring a girlfriend and potential future wife IRL decrease several fold.

My chances of scoring a girlfriend and potential future wife IC increase several fold.

    3.gif

    Guess it evens out.

But for real, I fully support the idea, and am willing to help in any way I can, just don't over-work yourself on this if it ever happens, Vaq.

  5. You hear the flap of wings, and from above, a hawk lands on your arm as you extend it. There is a note on his leg, you remove and read it:

"Greetings, I am Sin Sappheiros, High Elf and researcher. I live humbly on an island far away from any mainland, and spend much of my time researching technologies, lore, literature and the such. Soon, I plan on researching magic, as I have lost my ability to practice it with my full dedication to increasing my knowledge having been a main priority.

I ask that I may have certain allowances from The Order Of The Panacea, mainly to become an exception for, "I will not disclose secrets to those outside the order without permission of my superior or for the good of Asulon." - Such as being able to access certain documentation or have a direct line of communication available with the Head Phylixists, Toxicistands, and Elixists once the positions are assigned.

My reason is, that I wish to study these potions, not obtain any, just study them through details explained to me. I feel that it is an important part of my research to have knowledge about these items, as well as how they are created - And that it may help in filling in some of the many secrets I still try to figure out in the ancient lore being put together in Asulon.

If you wish to inform me of your decision or possibly negotiate certain terms and agreements with me, you can simply attach a new note to this hawk and feed him a cooked fish, he has been trained to return a note to me upon eating a cooked fish. If not, then simply push him from your arm now and he will leave.

I thank you for your time, and wish you luck on the completion of your construction for your guild base.

    -Sin"

  6. I personally think an Elf that's a professional at technology through knowledge and magic through his bloodline is somewhat 'out there' in terms of having a high possibility to be op in regard to "techno-mancy".

My character has sacrificed most of his ability to use any type of magic in turn for having studied a great amount of time on lore and ancient technologies for many years. I'd consider myself an op Elf if I had top notch magic-using abilities while still having mastered knowledge of my studies.

  7. I'm using a Google Doc to write mine, as it's very long. I'm inviting all of those who think they have spectacular entries at the end of the contest to contact me and get permissions for the Doc as I would like to take some of the best stories and people that wrote them, and over time and planning, combine all of the elements they have into a grand story we all work on and release together. I think if done, it would be a very good investment.
