How would your character respond?:I take it, then take it home to a merchant, in hope of getting some money. Since bandits cannot resist money, I leave a large golden ingot on the street, cast a spell on it so nobody but me can get within 2 inches of it, then hide. As soon as they come and try to steal it, I shoot arrows at them. Thats a group of bandits taken care of. I retrieve my gold, then go and collect my reward.
