Tom and his best friend Huck Clemmens never got a grasp of the way their community operated, and disliked every aspect of it. When he was 14 he ran away from home with Huck. A month after their escape the villagers caught them and brought them back and treated them as slaves. Six years later, they were able to escape again. They each mounted a horse, but the village's best hunter spotted them and fired an arrow that struck and killed Huck, Tom enraged, got off his horse and picked up a large rock, threw it at the hunter's head, knocking the hunter unconscious. Tom took Huck's body and buried him near their favorite cave. He promised himself that he would complete their childhood dream, and go out and explore the world and try to get in as many experiences as possible under his belt.
