In Character Information:
Full Name: Darin Tiller
Current Age: 23
Sub race:
Past/History: I was born the second youngest into a large family, so I did not have a lot of attention growing up. My parents owned a tavern in a village in the North of the Holy Oren Empire, and us kids were always working in it. I hated it, not because I did not like working (although that was not great either), but because my older brother was a complete jerk to me all the time. He made me do his work, beat me up, that sort of thing. When I was about ten, I started fighting back, and we would both get into trouble and have to do extra work. Later, he left to get work of his own. I was relieved, but he soon came back to work for our parents, failing to find other work.
The next major thing that happened in my life was our town getting raided by a group of bandits. They attacked the night after the Feast of Spring, so we were all asleep, tired from the festivities of the previous day. I awoke to the sound of our neighbor yelling, and ran out of the house. A bandit was approached me. He was trying to get me to tell him where my family kept our money, and when I wouldn't, (not for lack of want, but because I was too scared to think straight) he was about to kill me, but my brother came and saved my life by hitting him in the head with a chair. We gathered the rest of our family from various places in our home, and we ran away. We came back after a day and the bandits had left. Only one person had been killed, and they didn't take much, but several buildings had been burned, including our tavern. My family wanted to rebuild, but I saw it as an opportunity for change, so I left, hoping to become a farmer in another village somewhere.
Ambitions for the future: I want to become a successful farmer and make a decent living.
Personality: I am cowardly, but I try to do the right thing, at least if it is not too scary.
Skills: Cleaning, lifting (I had practice at the tavern)
Appearance: Brown eyes, brown hair, mustache, beard.
Any other details about your character: None.
Open Response Questions:
Whilst in the mighty human capital you notice a dark-clothed figure stealthily making his way towards the Emperor’s palace - he is clearly up to no good. There are guards within shouting distance - what do you do?
I walk up to the guard, trying very hard to be discreet.
Me: Do you see that guy? *points him out*
Guard: Yeah. What is it?
Me: I think he is going to try and steal something.
Guard: Do you know him?
Me: No, I just think that it is a little bit suspicious that he is wearing those heavy robes and crouching behind buildings, especially when the weather is so nice.
Guard: Don't be ridiculous. He is probably embarrassed by how he looks or something.
Me: Look, he just pick-pocketed that man. Shouldn't you do something?
The guard runs up to the man. "Hey, stop right there!"
The man starts to run. I go around a building, trying to cut him off, and when I get to him, I manage to trip him. He gets back up and knocks me to the ground, but the guard catches up and escorts him to jail.
Whilst wandering in the deep oak forest you come across a large clearing, in which sits a small cobbled cottage. Outside it stands an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits - they appear to be threatening him. You are armed with leather armor and an iron longsword, how do you react?
I sneak up behind one of the bandits and attack him, managing to get one or two hits in before he can engage me. "Run! I'll try to delay them," I shout to the old man. My fight does not go well. The old man runs away while I dispatch the first miscreant, but the second bandit knocks me out with the flat of his blade and pursues him. When I wake up, there is no sign of either of them. I hope he made it.
You are standing within the mighty human capital when you notice a small man standing behind a colorful stall. You approach the stall and notice that the man is selling a variety of general goods - he says that he is selling just about anything and that he has no set prices. He is willing to allow you to haggle and choose prices. What do you do?
Me: Do you have some food? I would love some vegetables.
Merchant: Yes, I have some corn, some asparagus and some onions.
Me: They don't look very fresh...
Merchant: I assure you, I just acquired them from some lovely farmers.
Me: Hmm... Well, do you have any crop or flower seeds?
Merchant: Ah, yes. I have wheat seeds, alfalfa seeds, and barley seeds, as well as rose bush cuttings that you could plant.
Me: I will give you 5 minas for a handful of wheat seeds.
Merchant: 15 minas
Me: 15 minas if I get 4 ears of corn with it.
Merchant: Are you out of your mind?
Me: Or I could tell people that your vegetables are weeks old...
Merchant: That's not blackmail, is it?
Me: No, no. Just friendly bartering.
Merchant: Ok, here you go.
*hands over stuff*
I hand over the money.
I walk away happily.
